A sweet moment celebrating the growth of our Sierra Zouk students & friends. 🥹🤍 Over the past 4 weeks, our Study Group dancers decided to step into completely new territory and create a short choreography inspired by some of the topics we’ve been studying together over the past weeks and months. For many of these dancers, this was their first experience learning choreography, exploring musical timing and synchronization as a group, and putting themselves in front of a camera. The goal was never perfection. It was to explore our edges. To take the work we’ve been developing as social dancers and challenge ourselves to express it in a completely different way. To get uncomfortable, try something new, and create a sweet memory of the work we continue to do together. We are so impressed by the courage and dedication of these dancers. 🤍 Sierra Zouk has now been operating as a progressive school for one year, and these are some of the highest level students currently moving through our program. Watching what they were able to create together in only four weeks, and seeing their artistry, dedication, and growth reflected back through this video, feels incredibly special. This is just the beginning of new territory we’ll continue exploring together. 🌿 So proud of our dancers! 🎥 : @rykerkay.visuals

Currently integrating the INCREDIBLE 4-day Sierra Zouk Retreat that just took place in our beloved Nisenan territory. I attended only six workshops but danced over 20 hours over four nights of social dancing. I’m so sore right now.😆 Massive gratitude to @sierrazouk , @ashe.jordan , @andrewjumanji , all of the dance ARTISTS teachers, and so many others who contributed to curating such an delicious experience of learning, connection, music, community, and our shared love for zouk dance. I love how we do things as a conscious community here. The dance floor always felt safe and sacred, respectful and playful. Every dance was like candy to me.🍭 Each partner, combined with the music and the moment, created a different kind of fragrant, delightful, sweetness. Some dances were hot and spicy—in the best way—too.🔥 It’s always a surprise, and I love that. Each dance left me feeling nurtured, happy, and more connected with the collective on the dance floor and with myself. Something I thought about each night was how often in my life I’ve thought of my sensitivity as a burden, a hindrance, or a liability. In my coaching, I’m realizing what an asset this actually is. But in zouk, it does something for me that verbal communication can’t touch. I LOVED my ability to attune to the most subtle movements, breaths, changes muscle tone, weight shifts, and energy of my partner. I definitely wouldn’t trade this aspect of me for the world now! ❤️ I’m grateful for the new dance friends and to keep growing with current ones. And I actually got a handful of videos of me dancing from this weekend! Although I’ve come a long way in 3.5 years, I still look at the videos and cringe every 30 secs or so.🙈 But I love seeing the progress. Good thing there’s no real end to becoming a better dancer.✨
