Review: Rugen Fisch Smoked Herring Fillets with Pepper in Brine and Own Juices
9/10
This might be my favorite name for a tin of fish ever. Something about bathing in its own juices! Add to that some complex pepper and a great balanced smoke, and you have an incredible herring! Available at @rainbowtomatoesgarden

Review: Rugen Fisch Herring Fillets in Tomato Sauce

Amazing German herring, with a more savory sauce and a much more traditional herring taste. Super moist with a perfect fishy flaky texture. Available at Rainbow Tomatoes Garden! @rainbowtomatoesgarden

Baked Crispy Eggplant

Scallion Pancake Wrap. Korean BBQ Spam, Kimchi, Provolone inside. Way easier than expected.

Late night Melon, Prosciutto, Mozzarella Bowl with Olive Oil Toasted Ciabatta, as one does

“Clear out the CSA before the next one arrives pasta” 😂 Oven Roasted Cherry Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, Red Onion, Japanese Eggplant, Basil, and Crushed Garlic w/ Bucatini. Served w/ Crispy Baked Eggplant. Way better than I expected. Finished with some Pecorino

Definitely one of the weirder things I’ve made lately. Asian-spiced Shrimp Paste Smash “Burger” Tortilla? Made Shrimp Paste. Smeared on Tortilla. Sprinkled Panko over top and Pan-Fried. Flipped and added Kraft Singles. Topped it with a little leftover Guacamole, remnants of a Kimchi container, Homemade Dill Pickle Chips, Yellowbird Serrano Hot Sauce, and Scallions. Worked surprisingly well and cleaned out more of the fridge/freezer.

Warm Spinach Salad, Bacon Fat, Mustard, Red Wine Vinaigrette w/ Cherry Tomatoes, Red Onion, and really good Bleu Cheese So f**kin good

Pad Krapow w/ Fried Egg. Definitely have this one dialed in.

Pulmuone Cold Noodles w/ Kimchi Radish Broth topped with Soft Tofu, Kimchi, Chili Crisp. It had been a very hot day and these hit the spot.

Pad Krapow filled Fried Rice Paper Rolls. Not quite as crisp as I would’ve liked but still very tasty. Served w/ side of Sweet Chili Sauce

Dumpling Tomato Salad w/ Chili Crisp Vinaigrette

Tofu & Green Beans w/ Chili Crisp

Shrimp Peperonata from @nytcooking over Instant Pot Saffron Rice from @spicecravings . Will make again. Simple w/ great flavor. Also helped me get rid of some of the bounty of my CSA

Upside-Down Caramel Apple Muffins So much butter they couldn’t be bad and definitely weren’t

Smoked Herring w/ Scrambled Eggs. Sounds weird, but surprisingly satisfying. Served with Bread & Roasted Garlic Butter

Finally nailed my ramen base without it breaking. Huge win in my little universe. Had with Kimchi and Tofu

Perfectly toasted Kimchi Grilled Cheese

Stir-Fried Salt & Pepper Dumplings. WOW were these good and super easy. Made soup with leftovers

Asian Pear Kimchi w/ Carrots & Daikon. Great flavor

Ya gotta love it when a plan comes together! Hungry from a White Sox winner, I needed a quick lunch. So starting with the always excellent Nuri sardines, I warmed them up with some @dishoom-inspired(not exactly only because I can’t help but tinker with recipes) tomato onion masala left over from my friend Kaberi’s Dishoom potluck dinner. Spoon over some brown rice and voila! 😋😋

Sam, pour vous, some ratings. Sardines: 9. Final dish: 10.

Review: Mina Sardines in Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Lemon
8.5/10
Slightly firmer than the non-lemon Mina tin, while still being moist and delicate. Mild lemon adds to the flavor without taking away from a fresh fish taste. Absolutely superb example of Moroccan sardines! @rainbowtomatoesgarden @mina

Quick lunch. Leftover rice, frozen peas, parsley and some Sichuan peppercorns and Hawaiian Black Lava Salt. @minerva_conservas sardine filets to top, microwave 90 sec and then mix roughly. (Didn’t add all the oil). Delicious!! 😋 10 min start to finish. @rainbowtomatoesgarden

Spiciest Tinned Fish in the World!

again....

I never thought I would be back here, having these spicy tins again, but here we are 🥵.

I think what i'm most excited about is that they're now available in the US.
These have been a struggle for me to get internationally, with lots of hoops you have to jump through.
So when I noticed that Rainbow Tomatoes Garden was going to start carrying them, I couldn't resist but to shout it from the rooftops.

Even though the carolina reaper and hapenero are a little too spicy for me. I love the jalapeno ones.

Review: Olasagasti Anchoas à la Donostiarra
10/10
Basque style anchovies with moist rich fish, slight vinegar tang, hints of biting garlic, and plenty of pepper perfection! The quality of every ingredient in this tin is evident from the flavor and textures in every last bite.

If you love white anchovies, run don’t walk for this tin. @rainbowtomatoesgarden
