Meet @erinlynnwelsh, the artist behind Eaton and Elysian, two sister murals created for Hotel Lucile.

Rooted in the landscapes, gardens, and neighborhoods of LA’s East Side, the works bring the natural environment surrounding Lucile inside.

For Elysian, Erin looked to the lush, overgrown vegetation of Silver Lake and Elysian Heights, where gardens, native plants, trees, and wild growth meet the city.

The mural was designed with Lucile’s architecture in mind, allowing the stained-glass light to become part of the work throughout the day.

For Erin, murals are an extension of her painting practice, shaped by the architecture that becomes their canvas.

The murals began long before paint met the walls.

Erin returned to nearly two decades of photographs and observations of California, pulling from hikes, gardens, hillsides, native plants, the San Gabriels, and years spent moving through Los Angeles.

Made in Los Angeles, with Los Angeles.

Erin brought together an all-women crew of LA-based artists and painters to create Eaton and Elysian, using @portolapaints and a shared connection to the place the murals honor.

We said goodbye to Timmy girl this weekend and my heart is very full of sadness and also love.

Rebecca had Tim for 16 years and it was a true honor to witness all the ways they loved and took care of each other. When we blended our family, their bond became the bedrock of our home.

Tim was magic. Intuitive and healing, she was the quiet heartbeat of any room she was in.

I’ll be grateful forever that I got to love and be loved by Tim these last few years and I miss her terribly. Even though I feel her everywhere I wish she were still right here. I love you Timmy 🩶
