POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The first UN•COLONIAL FILM FESTIVAL has come to a close.

Our deepest gratitude to every filmmaker who entrusted us with their work; to every member of our selection committee who gave their time, attention and care; and to every artist, guest and collaborator who joined us.

We built these five days with limited resources, without state funding or corporate support. What carried it forward was the decision to keep building, collectively, with what we had.

To everyone who came, watched, listened, questioned, discussed, performed, shared and spent time with us: thank you.

And to the filmmakers whose images travelled across borders to reach Münster: thank you for trusting us with your work.

We made it here.

Hi there, Nad E Ali @nadealy here for day 3 of the 10x10 photobooks takeover. For today's post, I am thrilled to share a publication project titled “Dounumber,” @dounumber a zine that offers a trenchant critique of the role-playing and posturing that characterizes elite art circles. In doing so, it exposes the absurdity of the social hierarchies and power dynamics that underlie cultural production in Pakistan.

The word "Dounumber" draws from local Pakistani vernacular, where it means questionable or inferior quality, imitation or fake.

Established in 2018, Lahore, Pakistan, at its core, this collection of comics, photographs and illustrations talks through its incisive commentary and innovative approach to storytelling, it invites readers to question their assumptions and challenge their preconceptions about the cultural landscape of Pakistan.

@dounumber has been instrumental in the development of a cultural movement in Pakistan that values independent and alternative forms of expression, reflected in the rise of zines.

Softcover, each measuring 5.83 x 8.27 inches and staple-bound with 32 pages.

A set of seven zines (Xerox) printed on photocopy machine.
