POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Yesterday I cried my eyes out watching my beautiful cousin @ramya_sinha sing the national anthem at her graduation ceremony. She graduated from University of San Francisco’s Law School [ @usfca ] with her JD degree.

I couldn’t help my tears because as black women in this country, we’ve lost hop in feeling protected as many other identity groups, cultures, religions, etc. I don’t feel the same when I hear the national anthem but there’s something about my cousin of Haitian and Indian descent standing there so poised with a beautiful voice singing while she’s walking into the world as another black female attorney.

She wants to practice immigration and civil rights law and I have no doubt she will make a major impact. In the state of our world, we need to protect ourselves and have individuals who represent the law through respect, representation and fighting against the injustices of the world.

There’s something about a black woman singing the national anthem right before receiving her law degree. It’s almost like she’s telling us her voice is already powerful and she’s about to sit at tables and in court rooms and in spaces to represent the voice of those who’ve become unheard and unwelcomed.

Congratulations Ramya, my dear cousin.
You are truly needed in this world 🇺🇸✊🏾

“Dreamers Are Selfish” - The Chaptones

The Chaptones just released an EP of our competition set from last year, which I had the privilege of arranging and teaching to the group as Music Director at the time.

All For Us - Labrinth, Zendaya
Bad Habit - Ben Platt
Don’t Blame Me - Taylor Swift

From starting to arrange the music in fall 2021 to releasing it now in spring 2023, it’s been a crazy journey but I’m so proud of the final product.

Huge shoutout to @avomakesmusic for guiding me through the process and spending 3 days with me recording everyone
@marcsokolson for taking on a humongous amount of work and doing a phenomenal job with the mixing and editing
@phat_frye for the INSANEly beautiful art
Our wonderful All For Us soloists @izzyakaplan and @chipotlecora , y’all defy description and I will forever want more duets from u two
@landon.davies for Bad Habit you’ve made so many people cry with the way you sing this song live, safe to say it translates to the mix as well
@kara.mich for Don’t Blame Me, I’ll always be in awe of how you casually took an insanely hard song and made it look effortless, literally got chills recording you for this.
@ramya_sinha @marimari.13 @c.ole.y gave the sickest vocals for Don’t Blame Me and I am forever grateful y’all went along with my weird arrangement

To the whole group I love y’all and will never forget how lucky I was to have gotten to work with such amazing people. 🥹💙

I put so so so much of myself into this piece of music.
This year has been a whirlwind of creative projects for me with not even a day in between each. Music directing and arranging this competition set was one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done. And I REALLY couldn’t have done it without the help of my chaptones fam.
.
First off @avomakesmusic . This set would not have happened without you. I could write an essay on all the ways I’m so grateful for you but it wouldn’t fit within the word limit for insta. Thank you thank you thank you❤️💙
@valentynasimon thank you for constantly supporting me I could not have gotten through this month without you convincing me I’m not crazy 😂
@kkaylee.jane @bridgerbauman you guys killed choreo with so little time you are godsends. Idk how you did it.
@emmaballen you were loads of help with choreo thanks for coming back. Having our alumni support is so awesome.
Everyone in the group, you guys brought your A game and getting to perform with you guys was makes me the luckiest guy ever. Love you Chaptones.
