• P A D M A • Much loved and Iconic - The ‘Padma’ clutch has got to be one of my proudest creations and its journey has been a truly transformational and humbling one for me at @rachanareddyofficial

When I was trying to make the first few samples with the help of local woodworkers, translating what I had in mind to make it aesthetically pleasing and functional with the right artisans was quite the challenge. I was snickered at by pretty much everybody who I approached to help me with this and it took months to get through the sampling.

Finally, when I had one sample, I took it to my sister @ramyaredy, my go-to sounding board, and asked her what she thought. I was amazed to see her excitement. She loved it and nudged me to create a collection!

And that was the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey. I quit my then day job at a footwear company and started working on a whole collection out of my parents' basement with one Master.

Once I had my first client and first few retail stores, I applied to the Lakme Fashion Week that was around the corner then. The excitement I felt when "I" was chosen to do a ramp show at LFW was beyond mind-numbing!

From here on, things moved fast. I got incredible opportunities to retail from some fabulous stores around the world. Collaboration at the Paul Smith stores in London and Paris was a cherry on top. I even got my first award - Grazià Young Fashion Award for excellence in Accessories. And hell yeah, there were fake versions of the Padma clutch being made by the Chinese!

Cut to 2021, I do not make my accessories at the moment. I may or may not do so in the exact form again. But it's heartening to hear how much they were loved and that they are missed.

That said, I also want to point out that it was not always rosy and cozy. There were so many failures over the last decade. Big and small. Personal and professional. But the 'Padma' in its spirit has always been a reminder to rise above it all.

And of course, I had to have it tattooed :)
