UCLA Women’s Tennis Associate Head Coach

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A weekend I will remember 4ever! First daddy/daughter trip for Lily and I! It was the first time she’s been away from Nina and her younger siblings ever! Thank you Coach Stella for always letting my family be part of what @uclawtennis does, and thank you ladies for including her in all your cheers! I love what I do, I love being out on the court with our players, love being out there with Coach Stella and Coach Rance, and to be able to share that with my family is really special to me. So many things were built during this regional tournament, our ladies did so well, and I’m glad Lily and I were able to be part of it! Thank you all so much and congratulations to @ahmani_tennis for qualifying for her first NCAA singles tournament!!!! The rest of your teammates are still in the hunt, plenty of tennis to be played! It’s always a great to be alive and be a Bruins 🐻🎾!!!!!

JIMMIE McDANIEL A PIONEER. A CHAMPION. A LEGACY. 🎾

Before the doors of mainstream American tennis opened to Black athletes, Jimmie McDaniel was already making national history.

His dominance was so significant that TIME Magazine recognized him twice in 1939 and again in 1940 during an era when national mainstream coverage of Black tennis champions was extraordinary.

In 1939, TIME reported on McDaniel following his ATA championship success. Then, on July 29, 1940, TIME covered the anticipated historic meeting between McDaniel and Grand Slam champion Don Budge in Harlem.

That match placed one of America’s leading Black tennis champions across the net from one of the most celebrated white champions of the era years before Althea Gibson entered the U.S. Nationals and years before Arthur Ashe’s rise.

McDaniel’s record included ATA National Men’s Singles championships in 1939, 1940, 1941 and 1946, with his championship trajectory interrupted by the realities of Jim Crow and World War II.

This is why we are presenting The Case for Jimmie McDaniel for recognition as a Contributor to the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

TIME documented him. History recorded him. Now his full legacy deserves to be known.

Purpose + Performance ⚾️🙏🏾

What an incredible week in Los Angeles, CA!

Our athletes put in the work on the field, challenged themselves in the workouts , grew through life development sessions, explored college campuses, and created friendships that will last far beyond baseball.

This camp was about more than developing better players—it was about developing better young men with purpose, discipline, and vision for their future.

A huge thank you to all of our players, parents, coaches, and families who trusted us with this experience. Your energy, support, and commitment made this week unforgettable.

This is only the beginning. More cities. More opportunities. More purpose.
