This weekend I visited Randolph-Macon College after my Saturday games were canceled due to the heavy rain. The campus was so pretty and the community was so sweet! My favorite part was getting to see the fountain in the center of the campus and getting to see the softball field during the tour. 💛🐝

This afternoon’s walk took me through the beautiful campus of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA! With historic brick buildings, mature trees, inviting green spaces, and a quintessential college-town setting, this campus is a lovely place to explore on foot. 💛🖤

Founded in 1830 by the Methodist Church, @randolphmacon originally opened in Boydton before moving to @ashlandvirginia in 1868 following the Civil War. Named for influential US Congressmen John Randolph of VA and Nathaniel Macon of NC, RMC is one of the country’s oldest continuously operating colleges.

Today, the college has 1,800+ students and a 125-acre campus with 60+ buildings and 55 areas of study. The Yellow Jackets have a long history here, and the campus blends its 19th-century roots with the energy of a growing residential college.

🌼 My favorite find was the Brian Wesley Moores Native Plant Garden! Established in 2010 as a student-designed native landscape project, the garden honors its namesake chemistry professor emeritus whose dedication to environmental stewardship helped establish RMC’s Environmental Studies program in 1991. Students selected plants native to the Chesapeake Bay watershed, creating a landscape that supports local wildlife while showcasing the beauty of native flora.

The garden includes native trees, shrubs, grasses, and flowering perennials. Plants such as the cone flower, blue mist flower, aromatic aster and goldenrod pictured provide valuable habitat and food sources for pollinators and other wildlife. I definitely want to return in different seasons to see the garden in its winter, spring, and summer glory! ❄️ 🌺 ☀️
