Toronto finished last in pull-up three frequency last season, while Kawhi made as many pull-up threes per game as the entire Raptors roster combined. He gives them someone who can create a shot when the initial action breaks down, easing that responsibility for Scottie and Quickley. Scottie should get more opportunities to attack after the defense has shifted, with Barrett’s cutting and improved decision-making giving them another way to keep those possessions moving.

Collin Murray-Boyles could also earn more closing minutes because of how differently he attacks compared with Poeltl. His ability to put bigger defenders in motion gives Toronto another option offensively, while Allen Graves adds offensive rebounding and the ability to force turnovers. The Raptors were 16th in half-court offensive rebounding last season at 28.9%, so there’s room to improve there. Playing Graves, Murray-Boyles and Scottie together would offer plenty of size and defensive versatility, although those combinations still need enough shooting to give their passing somewhere to go.

The price for Kawhi was substantial, with Ingram, Gradey Dick, three firsts and a swap going out. His availability remains a concern, even with a supporting cast that offers more ways to cover regular-season minutes. Kyle Anderson helps preserve the frontcourt passing in the second unit, and there should be opportunities to keep playing through the bigs when Kawhi rests.

The offseason earns an A, with the model projecting roughly 46 wins and a 57% chance of making the playoffs. That’s close to the market expectation, while the more optimistic case depends on Kawhi staying available and the younger forwards handling larger roles. Toronto has several plausible closing combinations now, and the early rotation should help establish how much shooting they can sacrifice to get their best defenders and rebounders together.
