What happens when years of athletic discipline meet the demands of the corporate world?

For Rashein Samuel, @rashein the transition from competitive tennis to professional life revealed something important: the environment may change, but the ability to work hard, adapt and keep learning can travel with you.

After years of competing in tennis, Rashein stepped away from the sport for four to five years to build his career and establish a financial foundation. Moving into a corporate setting brought different challenges, but the persistence he had developed through training and competition gave him a valuable starting point.

Anyone who has trained or competed seriously knows what it means to keep showing up through discomfort — practising in blistering heat, pushing through difficult sessions and working toward results that may not arrive immediately.

Rashein believes that same capacity for sustained effort can become a powerful advantage at work, provided you remain curious, understand what you're doing and keep learning.

His journey has since brought him back to competitive sport through pickleball, where his tennis background continues to serve him.

In this episode of Think Like an Athlete, we explore why the lessons learned through sport can extend far beyond competition — into careers, business and the way we approach difficult goals.

The takeaway? Your sporting experience isn't limited to what happens on the court. Discipline, resilience and a willingness to learn can become assets wherever your next chapter takes you.

He's also greateful from the support he gets from @picklismglobal to further his playing career.

Think Like an Athlete. Operate Like a Champion.

What if your hard work doesn't pay off where you expected it to?

International Tennis Pro and Pickleball Champion Rashein Samuel @rashein spent years competing in tennis, building his game and chasing success. But his journey didn't unfold exactly as he had hoped.

Today, that experience is helping him find success in pickleball.

His mother's advice has stayed with him: hard work always pays off somewhere.

Not necessarily when you want it to. Not necessarily in the form you imagined. But the skills, discipline and experience you build can create opportunities you never saw coming.

This is a lesson worth remembering when you're questioning your career, facing a setback or wondering whether your effort has been worth it.

Your journey isn't wasted just because it takes a different direction.

Keep working. Keep believing. Stay open to the next opportunity.

He keeps moving ahead with support from @picklismglobal

Sometimes, you don't need another lesson.

You need someone to say:

“You've got this.”

Rashein Samuel @rashein credits coaches Yathirad and Rashid with giving him something incredibly valuable throughout his sporting journey:

Reassurance.

Because even when you're a highly competitive athlete, there are days when you doubt yourself.

A tough loss can shake your confidence.

A bad run can make you question yourself.

And sometimes, your own voice isn't enough.

That's when having someone in your corner matters, just like one of his top sponsors @picklismglobal

Someone who believes in you.
Someone who gives you a push.
Someone who reminds you to keep going.

The best coaches don't only improve your technique.

They help you believe you can keep improving.

And honestly, this isn't just an athlete lesson.

All of us need someone like that sometimes.

Think Like an Athlete. Operate Like a Champion.

You can have talent.

You can have discipline.

You can train every day.

But who are you surrounding yourself with?

Rashein Samuel @rashein believes the right people can make a huge difference to an athlete's career.

Because losing isn't easy.

A tough loss can quickly turn into self-doubt.
Self-doubt can turn into insecurity.
And insecurity can affect everything that happens next.

That's where the right support system matters.

A coach who gives you perspective.

A mentor who challenges you.

A partner who supports you.

A sparring partner who pushes you forward instead of holding you back.

Someone you can have an honest conversation with.

But there's another side to it:

Support has to work both ways.

You need to communicate what you need from the people around you—and be willing to support them too. Just like the arragement he has with one of his top sponsors @picklismglobal

The goal isn't to surround yourself with people who always tell you that you're right.

It's to surround yourself with people who help you become better.

Think Like an Athlete. Operate Like a Champion.

What was the biggest challenge when Rashein Samuel @rashein moved from tennis to pickleball?

Surprisingly — the transition itself wasn't that difficult.

After competing at the highest level in tennis, including winning an AITA-OTA Men's singles title and representing Karnataka at national events, Rashein found the shorter pickleball tournament format relatively comfortable despite continuing to pursue the sport at the international level.

But something else made the transition even easier:

Having the right person beside him.

His wife, Shriya, can be much more present during pickleball tournaments.

She's there before matches.
She's there during matches.
And she's there after the tough losses.

For Rashein, that support provides a foundation of comfort that helps him deal with the mental side of competition and bounce back. That's why he is grateful to have sponsors like @picklismglobal supporting his journey as well.

Sometimes mental toughness isn't about becoming stronger on your own.

Sometimes it's about having someone who helps you find your strength again.

Think Like an Athlete. Operate Like a Champion.
