Some special moments from my last trip to Sri Lanka ✨

I never expected milking goats to change my relationship with my mum.

It started because I genuinely needed help and ofcourse she helped.

Our girls had never been milked before, and those first mornings were chaotic. We were chasing goats, trying to convince them to get onto the stand, figuring out our rhythm and occasionally wondering what we’d gotten ourselves into. 😂 It was a frustrating chore to feed some baby goats.

But Mum kept showing up.

Every single morning, with excitement and commitment.

And slowly, things started changing.

The goats learned. We learned. What once felt chaotic became rewarding, progress was fast,

Eventually, instead of chasing them, we’d open the door and they’d line up waiting to be milked.

But the biggest change wasn’t happening with the goats.

It was happening with us.

Those early mornings became our time together.

We started having conversations we probably wouldn’t normally have. We’d laugh, joke around, talk about life and sometimes just stop and appreciate the animals and the incredible land surrounding us.

I started seeing this new energy in Mum.

She seemed excited to wake up in the morning. She had something she was learning, improving at and contributing to.

She felt needed.

And I felt supported.

I even started noticing a softness in the relationship between Mum and Dad. Dad began taking on more around the house so Mum could spend her mornings outside helping me.

Our roles within the family were shifting in this really beautiful way.

And now Mum and I aren’t just milking together.

We’re dreaming together.

We’ve started talking about creating a little local milk and cheese offering and imagining what this tiny morning ritual could become. Which for me having the mutual excitement together is everything.

But even if it never becomes anything more than this ritual, it’s already given us something incredibly valuable.

Quality time.

Purpose.

Connection.

A sense of progress.

Sometimes we think we need huge changes to transform our lives.

But sometimes…

it’s a couple of goats, a milk bucket and having somewhere to be together every morning. ❤️
