Broncos, Tacos & Two Worth-the-Pours 🌮🍺🏈

Some beer reviews need a tasting room. This one needed homemade tacos, football, and the Broncos vs. Seahawks on TV.

For taco night, I put two Mexican-style NA brews head-to-head: Rationale Mexican Style Brew and Athletic Mexican Style Copper.

The Rationale was exactly what you want alongside tacos — clean, crisp and refreshing. It complemented the food instead of fighting with it, with good flavor and an easy-drinking finish that kept me coming back between bites.

Then came the Athletic Mexican Style Copper, and this one went in a completely different direction. There’s a real blast of flavor right from the start, with considerably more body than a lot of Mexican-style brews I’ve tried. Richer, fuller and more substantial, but still a great match for taco night.

Two beers taking two different approaches.

🌮 Rationale: crisp, clean and incredibly drinkable.
🍺 Athletic Copper: bigger flavor, fuller body and much more presence.

Neither one needs to beat the other tonight. They both understood the assignment: cold NA beer, homemade tacos and Broncos football.

Review #16 | @rationalebrewing West Coast IPA 🍺

👇 Follow @sobergentleman for weekly NA drink reviews!

Rationale killed it with this one! Citrusy notes, a hoppy kick, and a little extra malt made for a smooth, flavorful IPA with that classic bitter, dry finish.

So much of the creative world today lives on tiny screens destined to disappear into the brain rot void. There’s something special about seeing photographs and articles on a printed page.

Stoked to have these images of @walshkyle featured in the latest issue of @yuthmagazine. Go get yourself a copy

Before performance fabrics, there was linen.

This one’s from @roddandgunn
I’ve worn the hell out of it all summer, and it keeps getting better.

Some things don’t need improving.

📖 Nightjars by Michael Wehunt

⭐️ HAPPY PUB DAY! ⭐️

Thank you, thank you, NetGalley, Michael Wehunt, and St. Martin’s Press for a copy of this eARC! What a ride this was!!

Luke is just a guy trying to stay clean and be the best father he possibly can be while co-parenting his four year old daughter, Sophia, with his ex-wife Kristen. Unfortunately, all of that takes a turn for the worse one night when a photograph of his repressed childhood memories surfaces on a blind date. Chaos ensues, bringing with it shape-shifting, haunting demons of the night that will stop at virtually nothing to get their hands on Luke and his bloodline.

This is a book that I just wanted to get through, but in a good way! If that doesn’t make sense, allow me to explain myself. Do you remember the first time you watched The Ring? Because reading this book was like that for me. It is dark, depressing, futile, horrible, and terrifying. There is very little positivity throughout this book. Yes, I know The Ring is based on its own book, and contains a totally different premise and monster, but the vibe of that movie and this book were just identical for me. Fortunately, The Ring is one of my favorite scary movies, and it’s totally legendary as far as I am concerned. But, like, I don’t want to watch it ever again - ESPECIALLY as a parent!

Wehunt did something really hauntingly special with this book. The writing itself was simply soaking in horror, dread, and an overt sense of discomfort that affected me from the first page of the novel. I don’t know how else to explain it other than that the tone and setting of this story were essentially characters themselves. Ugh - full body shivers and revulsion abound! This is truly scary and unsettling stuff!

Review #14 | @rationalebrewing Kölsch 🍺

They sent this one my way, and I’m glad they did. This Kolsch is malty, bready, slightly dry, and has some subtle caramel notes that really work. 🍞

I’m usually an IPA guy, but a good Kolsch always seems to hit the spot, and this one definitely did.

My only complaint? I didn’t get much aroma from the can. Maybe it’s the beer, maybe it’s my seasonal allergies. 🤷

Rationale is making its way from the West Coast toward the East Coast, so hopefully I’ll be able to find these around Pennsylvania soon.

Gentleman’s Rating: ⭐️ 9.5 / 10
