Shattered Dreams- A FAKE Crash That Tells the Truth

I had the honor of being a part of Shattered Dreams—a program that to be completely transparent, shook me to my core. It’s designed to show the brutal reality of impaired and distracted driving, especially for teens like us who think “it could never be me.” Through a powerful, staged crash and its aftermath, we were shown how quickly everything can change.

I wasn’t the one in the crash, I was a witness. I stood there and watched my friends be taken away in body bags and ambulances. I watched families receive news that would break them. I stood in silence, knowing that while this was just a reenactment for us, it’s real life for too many.

As part of the program, I was also one of the few selected for the incredible opportunity to observe a surgery at Ben Taub. We were given the chance to spend time in the trauma and neurological ICU—where real lives hang in the balance. I stood at the scene of a crash beside my dad, a firefighter, and saw firsthand how many people it takes to try and save just one life, and I will forever be amazed at the passion the first responders have. I will forever be amazed that I was able to see the strongest yet most kind hearted individual in action to make a difference, my daddy.

And yet, all it takes to end one single life… is a single reckless choice.

Drunk driving is 100% preventable. The consequences aren’t just legal, they’re lifelong. They don’t just affect the person behind the wheel they ripple out to families, first responders, and entire communities. The pain doesn’t stop when the crash is over.

Before you decide to drink and drive or get in the car with someone who has, think. Think about your parents. Your siblings. Your friends. Your future. Is. it. WORTH IT?

Every 39 seconds, someone dies or is injured in a drunk driving accident. While you’ve been reading this, at least 2 people have lost their lives or had them altered forever. Don’t let another story end because of a choice YOU can control. Make the right decision. Be the reason someone lives out their dreams, not shatter them.

With love, Kara

Today is a day of great joy and celebration as my sister takes a big step in her faith through baptism! Continuously thanking God for His love and guidance that have brought her to this moment. Seeing her commit to Christ fills my heart with so much peace and happiness and filled my eyes with so many happy tears! She is now not just my sister, but my sister in Christ🤍 Wise beyond her years, she inspires me to see the good in everything and is a true beacon of Gods goodness. May her faith continue to grow and inspire those around her. 🙏✝️
