When houses of worship and religious voices take a stand, it adds moral weight to our cause.

That cause? Protecting democracy and the sacred right of every American to make their voice heard at the ballot box. 🗳️

‘The Vote is Sacred’ bus tour is rolling into communities across America, teaming up with local faith partners every step of the way.

While in Montgomery, Alabama, for The Vote Is Sacred bus tour, I had to stop by Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church.

A bit of a pilgrimage. Sacred ground. A reminder of the faith and courage that brought us thus far.

Proud to bring “The Vote is Sacred” bus tour to Montgomery, Alabama today!!!! 🗳️🚌

In March 1965, thousands of civil rights activists, including many people of faith and clergy, set out to march from Selma to Montgomery to demand the right to vote. Their first attempt was met with brutal violence from Alabama state troopers at the Edmund Pettus Bridge, a day known in history as Bloody Sunday. John Lewis was among the march leaders who were brutally beaten that day.

Two weeks later, thousands completed a historic 54-mile march from the Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church in Selma to the Alabama State Capitol, led by the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Their courage helped galvanize support for and ultimately led to the passage of the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Years later, Congressman John Lewis said the vote is sacred. He called it the most powerful nonviolent tool we have to create a more perfect union.

It is in that spirit that we are on a journey across America to protect the sacred right to vote from intimidation, disinformation, and those who would decide our elections for us.

The late Congressman John Lewis said “your vote is precious, almost sacred. It is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have to create a more perfect union.”

It is in that spirit that faith leaders are driving 9,000 miles across the country to protect the sacred right to vote.

Today in Raleigh, North Carolina — where early voting is officially open — “The Vote is Sacred” bus joined forces with @ncchurches to march to the polls and encourage North Carolinians to VOTE EARLY!!!!

It’s about time that Republicans stop getting away with using Christianity as a shield for hate. This midterm cycle has proven that democrats can reclaim faith.

Hegseth’s plan to make an execution public isn’t about justice or accountability. It’s about public humiliation as spectacle and the normalization of violence.

Proud to join the Rev. @raushenbush, president & CEO of @intrfthalliance; my friend and Morehouse brother @otismossiii; and other faith leaders at Tri-Faith in Omaha for the kickoff of the Vote Is Sacred bus tour.

I look forward to joining the tour along the way and bringing @pnbcinc’s support as it stops at our churches.

Every voice matters. Every vote matters. The vote is sacred.
