$I’m missing playing Open to Close sets. Festival season has been incredible, but after months of jumping between stages and shorter sets, I’ve realised how much I’ve been craving those long nights where I’m given a dance floor from the moment the doors open until the very last record. Since I was 12 years old, I’ve been obsessed with collecting and sharing music. That same kid is still very much alive in me today, constantly discovering new music and bursting to play it for you. Every week I find so much amazing new music, yet only a fraction of it ever gets heard during a shorter set. But Open to Close isn’t only about having more time to play more records. It makes me work incredibly hard as a DJ. I have to earn your trust. I can start slowly, lay the foundations, experiment with new music, change direction and react to what’s happening in front of me. Sometimes I’ll try something and it won’t quite work, so I’ll find another route and try again. I’ll keep working at it until I can take you somewhere you didn’t even realise you needed to go. That’s the bit I love. Keeping a dance floor engaged for that many hours takes everything I’ve learned over the years. There’s always that little element of fear that something could go wrong, which keeps me completely on edge and gives me the ultimate adrenaline buzz. As the night goes on, the relationship between DJ and dance floor gets stronger. Eventually you can reach places musically that simply wouldn’t make sense if I’d walked into the booth and started there, and importantly, I don’t inherit somebody else’s energy. I get to create the entire story from the first record to the last. After such a long run of festivals this summer, I’ve missed that freedom so much that I’ve deliberately squeezed a select few Open to Close shows between my next run of festivals. I promise there will be plenty more next year, but for now these are the select few: Sept 25 | Carousel | Sydney, Australia Oct 03 | Hong Kong Oct 09 | Pipe Live Music | Taipei, Taiwan Give me the whole night and let’s see where we end up.$
