Our second cousin Borna was murdered in recent days by the Islamic Republic in Karaj. A brilliant and kind-hearted ❤️young man, his life was filled with promise. He could not remain silent in the face of tyranny and brutality. While we mourn his loss, we stand proud of his courage and sacrifice. His voice lives on through us, and we will continue his fight until Iran is free.

In the 1980s and ’90s, the world was treated to some of the finest driver’s cars of a generation, when @mercedesbenz and @bmw went head to head in the fierce arena of DTM. Enter the 190E Cosworth 2.3-16 (W201). Hailing from an era of Mercedes when “Engineered like no other car in the world” meant business, the 190E exudes the highest levels of build quality, four decades on.

Its origins trace back to the 1970s, when U.S. fuel-economy rules pushed for higher fleet MPG. Mercedes answered with the “Baby Benz,” a bold direction championed by Bruno Sacco. It debuted the industry-first multilink rear suspension, a five-link layout for precise geometry control.

Mercedes commissioned @cosworth_official to develop a 16-valve head that moved more air, producing 183 hp in Europe and 167 hp in the U.S. The 2.3-16 added bodywork to reduce drag and lift, a dogleg five-speed, a limited-slip differential, larger sway bars, and stiffer springs and dampers. Debuting in 1983, it compelled BMW to develop the E30 M3, kicking off the most iconic duel in DTM championship history, symbolically closing with Klaus Ludwig’s 1992 title in the 2.5-16 Evo II.

Four decades on, that spirit lives in Northern California, where six 190Es gathered for this Avants story. @mb190.16 drives a family-heirloom 2.3-16 passed down from his father. @alesszagni’s 16V became his classroom for DIY wrenching. @raw_mean’s 2.6 Sportline with Evo I wing is a DTM tribute. @redgy.ramirez chased a five-speed Pearl Black 2.3-16 for road trips and miles. @cw_calvinwan has drifted, tracked, and daily-driven his 16V. Christian Rotter keeps his purist and factory-correct, engaging and analog.
