I wanted the living room to feel like the centre of this Bombay home, where the different parts of the couples life could come together without becoming one big room with one fixed purpose. The dining area and the two dens sit around it, and the black-framed partitions keep the dens visually connected to the main space. You can be together without having to do the same thing in it, which was rather the point. The thirteen-foot ceilings and the view of the sea made us think of a loft. But I didn’t want this sea-facing Mumbai apartment to feel too lofty or impersonal. Kota stone, exposed brick, chrome and timber bring it back to feeling like a home. The art is mostly accumulated, the rust-coloured chair brings in a little warmth, and the red console has never once considered blending in. I love that the living area continues towards the deck, with the sea becoming part of everyday life. That balance, an open, loft-inspired home that still feels personal, is what we were trying to get right. N A Y A M _ An art centric villa . Elements that make the space . At the heart of this double-height courtyard, a bespoke composition of natural Indian Kota stone unfolds in varied hues and custom-cut geometries, creating a grounded yet expressive floorscape. A striking bull sculpture anchors the space, resting on a custom-designed @jaipurrugs piece that ties into the surrounding artwork. A sculptural lounge chair adds a quiet seating moment, while a dramatic suspended light by  @oorjaadesign, handcrafted in cane and banana fibre, brings warmth and texture overhead. The RCC folded staircase, finished in a monolithic IPS concrete finish, becomes an architectural element in itself. Along its journey, artworks from the client’s personal collection transform the staircase wall into a visual narrative — bringing individuality, culture and memory into the space. "STONE HOUSE" A Contemporary Ode to Indian Craftsmanship Bathrooms A celebration of stone, colour and craft. In the bathrooms of this home, we chose to look beyond the familiar language of Italian marble and conventional tiles, allowing the inherent character of Indian stone to take centre stage. Each space was designed with a distinct material story. The child’s bathroom brings a sense of play through a custom-built tub and softly undulating bands of coloured stone. In the guest bath, an exotic ribbed stone creates a richly tactile envelope, while the master bath pairs a sculptural, custom-made stone niche with a more restrained palette. The parents’ bathroom takes a quieter approach, layering an unusual white stone with the earthy simplicity of Kota underfoot. The result is a collection of bathrooms that feel tactile, deeply rooted and contemporary where material is not merely a finish, but the architecture itself. We asked ourselves one question - how do you translate the European countryside in a bathroom? The answer wasn’t literal. It was material. La Dolce Villa | Den: I’ve always been fascinated by how heritage sites in Europe wear their history - where you can see the original material peeking through layers of restoration. 🔨 For this wall in the den, I wanted to recreate that sense of discovery. We “wrapped” these patterned tiles organically in natural buff sandstone to make it look like an ancient ruin was resurfacing during a modern renovation. It’s a bit whimsical, a bit Gaudi-inspired, and a total contrast to the sleek, high-gloss PU panel right next to it.
