I wrote a few new pieces for Whitehot Magazine, but right now, I want to focus on just one of them. There’s a special essay I wrote that I am especially proud of because it involves the art of many friends of mine. I published an opinion piece titled: “Why serious art lovers need to visit MFA & BFA thesis exhibitions.” This took many months to prepare and write as it entailed visiting over a dozen thesis exhibitions all over New York within the span of several months. Though I could not fit each and every artist or show into my piece, I wanted it to be as diverse as possible and felt that drawing attention to individual arts programs would maximize that reach. Through these shows alone, I saw the works of well over a hundred student-artists combined and am positively overwhelmed by the sheer volume of creative talent evidenced by this nascent generation of great artists! Every student from these programs along with their instructors should be proud of the work they’ve contributed! Bravo to everyone! The images here are the ones I used in my article, but stay tuned for a monumental reel of the works I’ve seen, for a 20-image slideshow would be too short!

Following up from my previous post about my friend Ray, I wanted to share the rest of the great art I saw at Barnard College a couple weeks ago during their BFA thesis showcase along with highlights from the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior student artists. Mind you, I skipped the Chelsea openings that occurred the same night to see this fantastic showcase … and it was so worth it! Bravo to all of the students and their incredible professors!

I am extremely proud of my friend Ray for her powerful thesis project at Barnard: a cyanotype on a decommissioned flag fabric from the Department of Homeland Security that presents images of people who were killed in ICE Detention Centers since January 2025. Artists reflect the events of their present, and this is exactly what my friend Ray has accomplished to a resounding effect. Armed with a combined Art and Anthropology background, her dedication to human rights causes is so inspiring. The fields of Anthropology and Ethnography have complicated histories mired in systemic racism and social inequities that go back generations, and these remain tethered to their extremely problematic roots. However, a young activist-artist like my friend Ray has come along and is using her creativity to make the world a more inclusive and equitable place.

Congratulations on a great and effective work of political art!

Had the best day at my fourth @morningsideartexchange | this gathering is for the youth and beyond. The youth that carries so much in their hearts.

It reminds me how we all just wanna be loved. How lucky we are to gather in a city not marred by bombardment, where universities still stand & spirits from all spaces can do as they please. How we fight for places directly affected by the violence our state facilitates and uses our taxpayer funds for.

It’s from the people to the people. It’s about doing it for the culture.

It was heartwarming to trade, paint and photograph. Was the best to hand out riso cards I made, “save souls over land”

An artist there said to me I know a lot of people are college students and I want them to feel it’s accessible to buy. In a city of capitalism this is an energizing reprieve.

I love showing up every year for this collective. & although I’m not a Columbia student… I just am. I just be there.

Thanks for all the luv to everyone who took the time to engage with my space. It’s all very corazon to corazon.
