I was chatting with our assistant coach and she asked me:

“If you had to choose one inexpensive piece of training equipment under $30 to use in your programs to help enhance performance, what would you choose?”

I immediately went to hurdles.

Different sizes for different intents. Multiple uses depending on the training stimulus. And one of my favorite parts direct feedback.

After enough reps, athletes start to feel when they’re not being elastic. They can tell when they’re spending too much time on the ground versus getting that quick, springy response.

A few ways we use them:

• Develop ankle stiffness in multiple positions
• Improve reactive ground contacts
• Develop elasticity and bounce
• Reinforce tall hips and a rigid core
• Improve force production into the ground
• Reinforce sprint rhythm and mechanics
• Challenge single-leg stiffness and stability
• Train lateral movement and shuffle mechanics
• Reinforce footwork for change of direction
• Develop braking and re-acceleration qualities

The exercise doesn’t have to be complicated.

Change the hurdle height, direction, rhythm, speed, or intent and you can create a completely different training stimulus.

Simple tool. A lot of options. Clear intent.

UNTAMED POWER SYSTEM

Power isn’t just about moving weight. It’s about creating force, holding position, and then expressing that force as quickly and violently as possible.

Here we’re combining a 7-second hex bar isometric hold with single-leg box blasts and overspeed alternating split squat jumps.

The sequence moves from isometric force production+ single-leg triple extension reactive strength , high-velocity power.

Different positions. Different demands. One objective: teaching athletes to produce and express force when it matters.

Most athletes wait until the season exposes their weaknesses.

Untamed athletes build before they’re tested.

This Fall/Winter, we’re developing athletes who want more than playing time. They want to be faster, stronger, more explosive, and more confident when the game is on the line.

Parents: Invest in the work that shows up on the court, field, ice, or track.

Athletes: If you’re serious about earning your spot, it starts now.
