Raymond Saá’s @raymond_saa collages begin with hand-painted sheets of paper, meticulously cut and sewn into small, intricate structures. These are assembled into larger compositions that pulse with color and rhythm. His use of sewing, inspired by his mother’s textile-making, adds an architectural quality to the work while emphasizing texture and physicality. This labor-intensive, intuitive process allows his pieces to evolve organically, embracing risk.

Reflect with Raymond Saá @raymond_saa in our latest installment of Studio Visits, a series sharing a look inside the creative spaces and routines of New School artists.

Raymond Saá (MA Sculpture ‘97, @parsonsschoolofdesign) is a Cuban-American artist working with abstraction and creates work on paper and canvas. Saá’s process-oriented work deconstructs and reconstructs natural elements, generating motifs that reference the artist’s Cuban roots, and connect natural forms with an architectural process.
