My listening space… The room gets some attention, but it’s really just about the music.

I’ve been collecting records and DJing for around 25 years. The gear has changed, the rooms have changed, but the idea hasn’t… find amazing music, listen properly and share it with people.

This space is just an extension of that.

@edseven xx

Current setup:

• 2 × Technics SL-1210 MK II turntables in custom wooden plinths
• Audio Techica XP7 stylus (for djing) VM540ML (for listening)

• Ray Tubes 12AX7 / 12AU7 Select pre tubes and KT88 or EL34 RESERVE Power tubes

• 25+ years of records across soul, jazz, funk, boogie, disco, house, broken beat, hip-hop and plenty of detours

💿⚡ AC/DC - Back In Black (1980) | Hard Rock

Spinning this all time classic hard rock album by AC/DC and even this pressing is not the best, I can still enjoy it with my setup. Even cleaned it twice with the ultrasonic cleaner 😅

Spin it and listen to it loud 🔊🤘

Get lots of questions about my tube amp, so here’s a quick tour.
.
Several mods compared to stock models, and that’s one of the beauties of this model - it’s infinitely modifiable. Mods include:
.
1) the EL34 output tubes have been replaced with KT88s (several internal mods done to accommodate, which I can’t explain). Tubes are by @raytubes.audio and they are lovely! Amp is under-biased so as not to fry the transformers.
.
2) The tube rectifier was replaced with solid state for stability.
.
3) Stock models have 4, 8 and 16 ohm screw taps. Here the 16 was removed (not a lot of 16-ohm speaker I’m aware of) and replaced with 5-way binding posts.
.
Kudos to @prospercables for the sexy rainbow interconnects.

What’s a band that changed you? For me, #MassiveAttack was it. They blew the doors off with Blue Lines, and then demolished the house with Mezzanine.
.
There’s before: pretty conventional North American rock and pop boy with some 80s Brit electro; and after: Trip Hop, electronica, house, chill, Acid Jazz, and on to Jazz.
.
Love this record, and Teardrop gets me every time. What a great closer to this Friday night!

With Mrs. Audiolove flying back to Tokyo yesterday, it’s back to solo listening, and out comes one of my favorite quiet, calming sessions - #WayneShorter’s Speak No Evil (1966/2020 BN Classic). The serene tune here is Infant Eyes.
.
Will be back in Tokyo mid-October and look forward to the resumption of pair listening.
.
What’s one of your solo listening session faves?

System changeover day. Out with the Sansui AU-9500 and in with the McIntosh C28 and Dynaco ST-70. On the turntable, #HoraceSilver and Serenade to a Soul Sister (1968/2025 BN Classic Series).

Official announcement!
This is something I’ve dreamed about for a while, and I’m finally taking some small steps toward making it happen.
I’m proud to say that you can now purchase @raytubes.audio directly through the Prosper Cables website.
A couple of years ago, I dreamed up the idea of Prosper HiFi Supply, the idea was always to eventually create a place where I could introduce my friends and customers to some of the audio brands and products that I’ve personally grown to love and respect.
Ray Tubes is one of those brands.
Friends and piers have been impressed with their tubes. Their approach, and the people behind the company are great examples for the community. Having Ray Tubes available through Prosper Cables feels like a pretty special first step toward something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
There’s more to come as I continue to grow, but I’m really excited to finally get this started. Happy Monday!

💿 Arctic Monkeys – AM (2013) | Indie Rock

The indie rock album that a lot of us love, packed with bangers 🤘 But for a lot of people not their best album 💿

Had an issue with my last cartridge, it distorted the hell out of this album but after a deep clean and with the new Audio Technica AT-VM745xML cartridge it sounds super crisp and clear, a 5 out of 5 sound! 🤘

Big news yesterday of a new, off-cycle Tone Poet release coming in late September. A two-disk set of #SonnyClark trio sessions recorded in 1958 following the release of his well-known #SonnyClarkTrio album. These sessions were released in Japan as Blues In The Night (seen and heard here) and The Art Of The Trio (the name given to the upcoming TP release). Now, do I grab the Tone Poet TAOTT or the original Japan release?

Cool Jojo! Happy Friday with some chill #JapaneseJazz from #MasayukiTakayanagi (aka. Jojo). He and Shoji Yokouchi are to #ThreeBlindMiceRecords what Kenny Burrell and Grant Green were to Blue Note; if you needed a guitarist for your session, they were the go-to players.
.
Picked this disk up earlier in the week at I Love You Coffee Shop in the Beltline, compliments of their Inner Ocean collab.

💿📀 George Michael – Faith (1987) | Pop / Pop Rock / Soul

I keep coming back to this album, because it's so good 🔥👏
Love the evening sessions with headphones and the tube amp, that adds a bit of grain, bit of distortion - a soul we could say 😮‍💨
