RAZAAQ ADOTI TALKS SON OF THE SOIL, AFRICAN HEROES, VIOLENCE & TELLING STORIES IN HIS OWN VOICE

British-Nigerian actor and writer Razaaq Adoti has built a career spanning both sides of the Atlantic, with credits including Amistad, Black Hawk Down and The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

Now, he’s taking the lead in Son of the Soil, the multi-award-winning action thriller he wrote and stars in, following a man whose return to Lagos after his sister’s death sets him on a path of vengeance and justice.

@j_chiemeke up with Razaaq to discuss bringing an African hero to the screen, filming in Lagos, navigating conversations around violence and representation, and why telling stories in his own voice just “hits different”.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse was released 22 years ago on this day in 2004! I love this promotional photo of Sienna Guillory (next to Razaaq Adoti) as Jill Valentine in her S.T.A.R.S. gear. This was released on the Resident Evil website featuring Umbrella Corporation files on various characters in the new film. I loved Apocalypse but a photo like this makes me wonder what the "Mansion Incident" would have looked like in Paul W.S. Anderson's version of Resident Evil.
