After watching one of my favorite movies ever, my beautiful sister premiered a movie she made for me. Not to get too mushy but if you know me, you know I love words in any form whether its literature, dialogue, lyrics, or just talking, which really just translates to ‘i always have something to say.’ This is one of the very rare times in my life where I genuinely can’t communicate with the human language just how much this means to me. So many people that I hold very dear to my heart were involved and i can’t thank you all enough. I feel very lucky to have so much love in my life. 🤍

Two years ago, I shot my first narrative short film called Lace Front. And you can tell it was two years ago by the stylish 4:3 aspect ratio! It’s about a friendship beginning to crack under sudden success and tentative promises. It took a long time and I wore many hats.

I’m kind of emotional sharing this film and attempting to curtail it for Instagram. The short story is, I was severely depressed at the time and anxious about making a film that required collaborators. I can be quite the shy sheila. But the amount of people that ended up coming through for me, trusting me, providing contributions-- what’s the opposite of a rude awakening? Thank you all.

I feel a strange need to justify this film because it has no urgency or political relevance? It was also never intended to make money or run the festival circuit. And here it is, plopped into your Instagram feed. I don’t know when I’ll be moved to make another film with “no purpose”. The purpose was stylizing and translating my ideas into a film. I love filmmaking, I love this one despite its warts, and I hope some of you will too.
