What a day it was for our little man! 😮‍💨 Exhausted is an understatement.
A huge 6 hour day with two massive specialist appointments.
First up was Cardiology, Oliver had a partially sedated Echocardiogram and ECG which proved to be a total success. We were able to get all the images we needed and Oliver cooperated so well. After, we met with our Cardiologist who had nothing but good news for us. Oliver’s heart is doing great considering all that’s wrong with it, however we can’t become complacent and need to remember there is a lot we are still dealing with. They intend to make a plan for Oliver’s heart health at some stage next year including a cardiac MRI. Unfortunately, a chest X-ray in September revealed that we are seeing some new things wrong with Ollie’s heart but we are keeping a close eye on it. Secondly, we had our appointment with Ophthalmology, those who know Ollie, know he wears an eye patch for Strabismus Amblyopia 4 hours a day. Oliver had some eye drops and an eye exam to check the health of his eyes. Patching has been extremely important in correcting his vision and has worked wonders for him. We are now at the stages of discussing surgery and fixing the turn as the eyes are almost both at equal vision. Oliver is a superstar who continues to surprise us and his team. So many of those at the Royal Children’s remember Oliver as a this tiny baby with a future that was unknown and now they can’t believe he’s a big almost 5 year old. (Neither can I 🥲)
He is remarkable and continues to grow and thrive. We know we have more hurdles ahead but it’s nothing we can’t face together. 💪🏼 ♥️

Sixteen-month-old Harlen Busuttil urgently needs a new liver - and as he lingers on the waitlist for a transplant, it’s increasingly likely his mum, Kristy, will need to donate part of hers to save his life. Kristy hopes Harlen’s story will encourage Australians to register as organ and tissue donors at donatelife.gov.au

Update:
Yesterday we had our appointment with Bentleys surgeon to discuss the next steps.
We left the hospital feeling like we didn't hear what we wanted to hear.
Firstly we were told how rare his diagnosis is and that they currently only have 2 other patients at RCH with Myofibroma. (Not operated on)
B man is booked in to get more MRI’s & ultrasounds done to determine if the tumour has grown and decide from there what the best treatment would be.
At this stage he is too small to undergo surgery, with the tumour being surrounded by important nerves the surgeon said if operated on it will damage and jeopardise the function of his leg for the rest of his life. So is ruling this out right now.
The side effects of chemo out way the benefits at this stage until we know how aggressive this tumour is.
Praying his tests come back that the tumour has not grown 🤞🏻
Seems like it will be a very long unknown road ahead of us.

Posted @withregram • @rchmelbourne The RCH is thrilled to announce that for the very first time, the Good Friday Appeal will be taking RCH excellence into the regions by sharing a portion of funds raised to five regional paediatric health services to fund equipment, training and scholarships!

This funding across @barwon_health, @bendigo_health, @gvhealth, @grampianshealthballarat and @latroberegionalhealth will strengthen the capabilities of our regional health service partners, and most importantly, will support more families living in regional and rural Victoria.

We are committed to increasing the number of children and young people who can receive high quality care closer to their home, just like Ollie, Ava, Tedi, Dominic and Maisie, all who are RCH patients living in the five regional areas receiving funding.

“Ollie has been in and out of hospital with cystic fibrosis since he was three weeks old,” shared Ollie’s mum, Mel. “This funding will help our family a lot, we have three older children which means I can be closer to them as well and not two hours away as we won’t have to travel as much from Ballarat.”

Dominic’s mum Megan agreed that it will be great not having to travel as often from Bendigo to the RCH.

“Travelling is hard, it takes a lot of time out. I’d love to see the Bendigo hospital staff being able to work together with the RCH, and seeing that information and expertise being shared so that we can be at home!”

Every child and family deserve to receive the best possible care regardless of where they live, and we are excited to support our regional families and colleagues through this wonderful initiative 💜💚
