DAYLIGHT trailer! Thankful to all who brought this to life. @newyorkermag

DAYLIGHT is now on @newyorkermag When I first heard about an incarcerated man who wrote a viral essay about Taylor Swift, I had no idea where the story would take us. Joe is unexpected in a lot of ways, but the love story that became the heart of this film was the most pleasant surprise. It’s been incredibly meaningful getting to know Joe and Ambere and bringing their story to the screen. Link to the film in bio!

Sound and Vision Team — Reed Nisson — Reed (cinematographer) is the man behind the camera. Unfortunately for him, he gets stuck with me on long car rides. Here we are in the desert somewhere between shoots. My favorite thing about Reed is how much he cares about anyone on the crew. Not photographed here: Wyatt Maker, Harrison Rusk Vasilios Sfinarolakis — Vas shot almost all of the verite of the team during the 24/25 season. My favorite moment that he shot was Geno talking to the team after they beat SC in the regular season. Daniel Carter — Daniel’s shot parts of every doc I’ve directed and many of the others I worked on before directing. His repeated requests to Geno to “put me in coach!” were ignored. Ben Nimkin — Almost every recorded bit of sound was recorded by Ben, but how can you not acknowledge him capturing “I love you, I hate you, I love you.” Also he may have been the reason I got yelled at for the squeaky shoes! Scott Salinas — The Music Man. Anyone who watches this show knows how much I love Scott’s music. It’s as important to me as the content we capture in the field and nobody does it better. Seth Ricart and RCO — A brilliant colorist, human, and founding member of the middle aged cycling group, The Bike Tysons. Tristan Baylin and Gigantic Studios — The reason you feel like you’re inside the arena at every moment is because of Tristan’s brilliant sound design and mixing. The second MAMIL in the Bike Tysons. Autumn Nakamura, Daron Nealis and HSC.TV — Don’t let the photo fool you, as anyone in Denison Cinema (where we met) will tell you, they’re “quite professional.” Their incredible team at HSC.TV helped do all of the graphics for this show. Justin Feldman and Hit The Ground Running — I love working with Justin because he gets every major artist to agree to a fee we can actually afford. And the ones who don’t? He finds an alternative song that’s even better.

Solomon Grey, “Firechild.” Starring @andreroyo This one’s special to me. Getting to collaborate with Andre Royo, from one of my favorite series ever, was a real honor. And doing it in a totally pure, verité style was so exciting. This video is essentially me, Andre, and literally a couple of people supporting us as we ran around downtown LA shooting it. I’d written this loose narrative about a guy who just got laid off and then experiences this kind of fever dream of emotions, brought to life across these separate vignettes. Once we got there, we just danced with each other, in terms of how I photographed him and how he performed. We found a rhythm together, totally visceral, intuitive, in the moment. And I think the film really captured a trueness about those stages of grief. This is one I lensed myself. I’m always drawing from my photography roots as a deeply visual person, and the visual poetry I’m always chasing came through here, through this collaboration. one of the smoothest and most emotional voices in underground alternative music right now 🥲 so much love for deb never 💛 the thing about deb’s sound is that it’s peaceful yet emotional yet beautiful all in the same essence. her latest album, “arcade,” really struck a chord with me “heavensake” was one of the tracks that deb previewed on her “colors” performance. this track will straight up make you feel like you’re floating at times. the little ambient electric guitar hits are so hauntingly beautiful when paired with deb’s soft and gentle voice. this track is truly one of her most beautiful performances the album has been receiving a ton of praise from media outlets such as npr, alt press, flood magazine, dork magazine, and stereogum. alt press actually ranked it as one of their top 10 albums of may and in my opinion it’s in large part to tracks like “know me better.” this upbeat track reminds a whole lot of clairo, who was actually seen hanging out with deb earlier this year. this more upbeat poppy track still has that lowkey peaceful and melancholic energy, but it’s a really nice switch up from the first track one of the most praised tracks from this release is the titular track, “arcade.” with flood magazine saying “the song (arcade) is d*mn good!” this feels like a deeply personal song for deb. with hints of modern day love and the struggles that come with loving someone in modern day society, this is a track that so many will relate to deb never is making some of the most heartbreaking and inspiring alt music out right now. what do y’all think? would y’all like to see her collab with clairo? are y’all tapped in with the underground alt scene? lmk below <3 — #debnever #clairo #indiemusic #slowthai #alternativemusic
