Flamenco Guitarist offering performances, personal and group guitar lessons for all levels in San Antonio, Texas.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Last night we performed at a dual birthday party for a father and son, one turning 88! The elder gave us the most heartwarming real-time review sharing with us that our performance made him “glad to be alive!” 🥹
What? Is this real life? Do we really get to do what we love with people we respect and enjoy AND receive such kind words?
More than ever, recent events have shown us all what a gift it is just to be able to breathe air into our lungs and slowly exhale, feel the sunshine on our faces and smile, enjoy a slice of German chocolate cake, be with our friends and family sharing a laugh or a hug, or simply sitting and listening to some lovely flamenco music played on the harp!
Happy Sunday, don’t get too caught up in the hustle, demands, and stresses of the day. Take time for some delicious enjoyment of this singular life. 🪉❤️✨🥹

A late posting, but I wanted to show gratitude for my mentor who stuck by me of 5 months of virtual rehearsals, and 2 months of in person. Teaching me structure of tablao setting and Alegrías; all while staying extremely supportive throughout the experience. I will never say I was a perfect student, but boy did I have an amazing teacher. Thank you, @goflamenca for encouraging me to keep going even when I did not want to or think I was good enough. Thank you, @texasfolklife for granting me the opportunity to learn and grow as an artist and performer. Thank you, @rcorderoflamenco for extra rehearsals to help me understand how to speak the language of tablao and how to coordinate with live music. Thank you, @danielgarciaflamenco for being my rock through it all. For pushing me to keep going and helping me find my creative spark.

Can I confess, it’s bittersweet the ending of an amazing apprenticeship. So happy for Matthew but I’ll miss all the moments shared, laughs, sweat, hard work, and spirit of possibilities.

Starting virtually, hours of Face Time calls, hours and hours spent in the sweltering garage, working through “maybes,” finding answers to “play with it,” continuing despite the “almosts,” befriending the honest metronome, trusting your inner voice, believing in your past experiences, creating and constructing together, what a journey!

Thanks so much for the opportunity Texas Folklife, it was an unforgettable experience. Thank you to Drea, Randy, and Chayo for their support along the way.

And thank you most of all to Matthew for your dedication, respect, sustained effort, and good vibes sharing the path with me. I’m eager to see what awaits you in your future and I know you will continue to make us all proud. It was an honor to serve as your mentor. Love you, bro! ❤️✨

Flamenco Filming day: That’s the one!
Matthew Guerra and I have been working hard this spring and summer on our partnership via the @texasfolklife Apprenticeship Program. The program focuses on preserving and passing down the cultural arts. Nurturing the next generation has always been a priority of mine. It’s been an honor to serve as Matthew’s mentor coaching him through the principles of tablao, helping him to best utilize the structure, and allowing his voice and his past experiences to shine. He rose above the occasion and I am super proud of him and the initiative he took in asking me to apply with him, Sonia is definitely looking down and giving an “ole tu!” We will be presenting our full work “Sol y Sombra” on Friday, August 14th, so please save that evening and we hope to see you there to cheer on Matthew and applaud his effort and dedication over these months 👏🏽❤️✨

Today was the end of our first ever San Antonio Flamenco @armedservicesartspartnership 5-week workshop at @guadalupeculturalarts . We had 5 hours to introduce flamenco to absolute beginners and they did wonderfully. The end of the session is bittersweet, I hope to see these amazing people again and sincerely hope they continue their journeys with the arts and all the magnificent benefits that music, dance, and expression provide not just to our bodies, but more importantly, to our souls. Much love, respect, and gratitude to the Vet community. Ole ustedes!!

Don’t you love it when you discover a city’s hidden gem? Bring a friend for a night of flamenco, paella & sangria in San Antonio!

Located off the beaten path in downtown San Antonio, Carmens de la Calle Cafe presents live flamenco performances in an intimate unique setting. This month’s performance is a nod to Spain’s annual Feria de Abril.

We’ll bring the outdoor festival vibe indoors. It features dancers Genevieve Obregón & Austin’s Drea Pacot with singer Chayito Champion & guitarist Randy Cordero.

This Friday — show at 7:30p and 9:15p. Ticket link in bio! See y’all there! ♥️✨
