I thought today was the final day, but the deinstallation has moved back to Thursday. So I wanted to give a final shout out to this exhibition. It has been such an honour to exhibit for so long in one of the largest London Hospitals with one of the busiest corridors. Meaning thousands of people have seen this collection, which celebrates our modern medicines that have been discovered in nature. I want to thank UCLH arts for curating and hosting my exhibition. They have been an amazing team and extremely supportive. I would also like to thank @rcp_garden for collaborating on the special tour of their garden of medicinal plants with Professor John Newton and Dr Henry Oakeley. The special focus on the plants featured in my artworks was hugely satisfying. If you missed out on this event you can book on to one of their tours via the @rcphysicians . A curated selection of this exhibition will be coming to my home town Hitchin @northhertsmuseum from 3rd November with a “Meet the Artist” event on Saturday 21st November 1-3pm. So there will be a chance to see some of the works more locally. If you visited I would love to hear what you thought of the artworks! #medicinalplants #hitchin #medicalart #uclhospital #oncologycare

Trying to find my tribe! If you love science, discoveries, nature and want to see that all beautifully demonstrated through art you need to join me here! Having worked as a doctor for 15 years, I left medicine to study garden design after falling in love with plants. Then I needed spinal surgery and whilst I waited for this I painted! I painted all the things I’d had inside my head. Showing how amazing discoveries in nature have led to modern medicines. 4 years later I am exhibiting at UCLH london with a large solo show and have exhibited at the @theotherartfair and @rcp_garden and opening a floral exhibition this Friday @67yorkstreetgallery with @joybeam_art_collective ! Literally feels like I’m living a dream. Follow me to join in this whirlwind of a career change! #medicinalplants #leavingmedicine #careerchange #plantlover #scienceisawesome

It was a pleasure hosting the team from Impetus, winners of our @londonsummereventshow competition back in February. Our guests enjoyed a delicious lunch in our Secret Garden before taking part in a ‘Teas from the Garden’ workshop hosted by @rcp_garden. The Medicinal Garden provided the herbs and flowers to brew tea for the workshop, giving the team hands-on taste of the garden history. Fancy hosting your event with us? The Madagascar Periwinkle was the plant that really triggered my desire to paint this collection. When I heard Dr Henry Oakley talk about his experience of working on paediatric wards before Vincristine and Vinblastine was discovered it hit me the impact this discovery truly made. The lack of treatment available for childhood leukaemia and lymphomas made the prospect of being a paediatrician feel too overwhelming. When a discovery is that powerful how do we not all know about it!? So I wanted to share that. Inspire future discoveries and remind ourselves it is possible. #cancerresearchuk #lymphomasucks #leukaemia @rcp_garden

Shakespeare in the RCP garden part 2 (one year later) 🎭 🪴 Neurologist Professor Jurg Kesselring, a visiting Fellow of the college, returned to the RCP garden last week. Following on from last year's post (24 April) he recited a soliloquy from Richard II Act 5 Scene 5, spoken by the deposed and imprisoned King Richard. Richard, imprisoned at Pontefract Castle, is visited by a former groom of his stable and then by the prison keeper. Exton and his men enter with weapons. Richard kills several of the men before Exton kills him. I have been studying how I may compare This prison where I live unto the world... (5. 5.) Follow our Shakespeare Trail at the garden (signs in yellow) on your next visit to the RCP garden. Tune in next year for part 3! 🎭
