Our dance community lost a bright light.

There are no perfect words for moments like this. We are all carrying grief in different ways, but one thing I know is this: we need each other now more than ever.

No one is meant to walk through life—or loss—alone.

Dance has always been the glue that brought us together, but love has always been the foundation that keeps us together.

So check on one another. Hug a little longer. Say “I love you” a little more often. Give grace. Share stories. Keep dancing, because that’s one of the ways we honor those who poured so much into us.

My heart is hurting. Our community is hurting. But even in our sorrow, I choose to keep my faith.

God makes no mistakes. While we may never fully understand His timing, I believe Mykee’s light doesn’t end here. Heaven gained a beautiful dancer, and I can only imagine the angels rejoicing as he teaches them how to move.

Rest peacefully, Mykee🕊️Thank you for the love, the laughter, the gift, and the legacy you leave behind.

We’ll carry your rhythm with us always.
May God surround Mykee’s family, friends, and every dancer whose life he touched with His peace. And may your community find comfort in each other, because that’s what communities do—they hold one another up when someone no longer can.

Sending you love and praying for strength for your entire dance family. 💚

Today, our community stands together with heavy hearts.

Whether you knew him personally, admired him from afar, trained under him, danced beside him, or simply crossed paths with him, there is a shared sense of grief that reminds us just how deeply one life can touch so many others.

I had the privilege of knowing him as more than an extraordinary dancer, choreographer, and teacher. I knew him as a genuinely kind soul. I knew him by his smile. I knew him as someone who poured into others without expecting anything in return. I knew him as someone who checked on me, encouraged me, supported me, and reminded people they mattered.

That is a gift.

If the reports surrounding his passing are true, then my heart breaks even more not only for him, but for every person silently carrying a weight they believe they have to bear alone.

The truth is, this is not the first time our creative community has mourned someone in this way.

And unless we are willing to change how we care for one another, it may not be the last.

We work in an industry that celebrates resilience, perfection, passion, and performance. We applaud people for pushing through exhaustion. We normalize burnout. We praise the ability to “keep going” while often overlooking the person behind the performance.

But creatives are human before they are artists.
Dancers are human before they are performers.
Choreographers are human before they are leaders.
Behind every standing ovation may be someone quietly fighting a battle no one else can see.

I want to say something that comes from a very personal place.
I know what it feels like to wrestle with dark thoughts. I know what it feels like to question your worth, your purpose, and whether the world would somehow continue without you. Those thoughts can convince you that you’re alone, even when you’re surrounded by people who love you.

They lie.

Asking for help does not make you weak.
Crying does not make you weak.
Going to therapy does not make you weak.
Calling someone because you’re not okay does not make you weak.

It makes you human.

And to those who love creatives to our friends, directors, choreographers, teachers, producers, families, and peers I wa

My heart is heavy. Our dance community lost someone who touched many lives, and I lost someone who believed in the vision before it ever had walls.

Words will never carry the full weight of this loss to me and RDS because not many know how much he did for me and RDS. But I want to extend my deepest condolences to his family, his friends, and every dancer who had the privilege of sharing a floor, a laugh in young circle after class, or a dream with him.

Dance brings us together through movement, but it keeps us together through friendship, love, and shared dreams. So today, hold your people close. Check in on your friends. Be kind to one another. And please remember that no one has to face life’s challenges alone.

Mykee made his impact In every rehearsal, on every stage and every class he taught.

May he rest in peace. He will be remembered with love.
