This reclaimed wood is becoming part of this year’s Temple, and every piece of it has a story.
80,000 feet of lumber came from a mid century lake estate and a 150 year old industrial building in Milwaukee. Instead of getting bulldozed and tossed in a landfill, it was carefully taken apart and saved for reuse.
Old growth wood like this is stronger and denser than anything you can buy new, and honestly it’s just beautiful. You can see its history in the tight grain, the texture, and all the little marks left behind by time.
If you want to be part of this, the link to our crowdfunder is in our bio. I’m so grateful for every builder and every supporter helping us bring this sacred space to Black Rock City. Follow along, the Temple is just getting started. *The Temple is being built with a blend of wood old and new. #burningman #burningmantemple #2026temple

This wood was supposed to be in a landfill right now.
Instead, it’s becoming the Temple at Burning Man 2026.
Some of these beams came from a 150 year old factory in Milwaukee, built back in 1872 when lumber still came from old-growth forests. That’s why this wood is actually stronger than anything you can buy new today. Tighter grain, more density, and decades of character you can’t fake.
Here’s the part most people don’t know. When a building gets demolished, all the carbon stored in that wood eventually gets released back into the atmosphere as methane, which is way more potent than CO2. When it’s deconstructed and reused instead, that carbon stays locked up for another hundred plus years.
Two buildings came down. One Temple rises.
Deconstruction over demolition, every time. *80,000 linear feet of wood in the Temple is reclaimed. Additional wood was also needed to complete this project.
