The CAVE was the third tabletop set we built for @turtleboxproductions’ new season of Mini Explorers! We don’t like disposing of sets, so when we can, we recycle and repurpose them. This was the case for the mossy West Coast cave! Large set extensions were added to a previous miniature cave. We sculpted, painted, and dressed new stalactites and stalagmites, holes, crevices, and different elevations. The rocks were dressed with fake moss, tiny pebbles, and miniature crystals. Making a cave is messy work, and we loved every minute of it! Here’s a closer look at the Sonoran Desert tabletop set we built for the new season of @turtleboxproductions award-winning show, “Mini Explorers.” This series follows children’s “mini avatars” as they navigate real world settings to complete a mission. This season, we came in to help expand the variety of locations the characters could visit. For this set, we took an additive approach, layering a variety of natural and recycled materials on top of one another to build a realistic substrate for this ecosystem. These sorts of builds are a ton of fun since they evolve so organically. The team at Turtlebox then expanded the scope of these sets by filming with a large screen behind the set - a contemporary approach to the age old technique of rear projection. BTS Timelapse from a POV dive shot director @marcusmazzulla came up with for the @petermcpoland WDYDTM video. We had to rig a crazy setup with an alternate creature mouth by @re_clutter specifically for this shot. Covered in museum gel to get those strings of saliva on the teeth and lit to highlight the texture inside. Marcus and I set up a rig with a desk mounted camera arm that could achieve the movement we needed for the dive and @brontebraziermua our art director secured the mouthpiece to our rig so it didn’t fall apart on us. Working against gravity and the museum gel was tricky and we had to shoot this one really quick but it turned out great, one of the coolest shots I’ve ever been apart of! And then the following shot where we actually impaled Avery’s poor creature with some green tinted museum gel blood as the cherry on top. Of course recreating George’s garden in “Give Me Love” meant creating his Garden Gnomes! These lovable, rambunctious gnomes were sculpted and painted by @benfishy99, and these incredibly tiny goggles were handmade by @re_clutter. A little nod to Fantastic Mr. Fox, as requested by the director Finn Wolfhard! Watch George’s gnomes speed down a grassy hill, ride across the lake on a duck boat, and venture into dazzling cave in this new music video. The Alpine Garden was our largest and most intricate set to build for George Harrison’s GIVE ME LOVE stop-motion music video. It was all-hands-on-deck for the art department! From sculpting rocks to hand-cutting and painting paper foliage, our fabricators focused on every little detail to bring George Harrison’s garden to life in miniature. We even recreated the same species of plants in George’s garden! Tree Dragon was tasked with designing and building the Alpine Garden. Under @brontebraziermua’s direction, we prioritized using organic materials to make the garden feel as earthy and natural as possible. This decision set the look early on for the entire video. We built a modular set so the garden could come apart in sections, and be used in different animation stages. With the camera placed at ground-level, it almost feels like you’re gardening right next to George! 📸: @workbyabdul @nobodytoldmestudios @tyedownpictures

Animation Directed this stopmotion portion of a music video for @petermcpoland with some of my dearest friends and collaborators. So proud of how this one turned out. Director @marcusmazzulla had me run it back with some new additions to the team, roll call… @stop_mo_mea who brought @petermcpoland and @emmachamberlain to life in such a stunning way, capturing their likeness while creating unique puppets. @edsalvador_ and @nikradulovich. My brothers in arms who added their own flair to the animation. Especially Edwin who was lead animator and dedicated endless hours to the video. @avverymason who created our disgusting (in the best way possible) creature and a custom mouth piece for the POV shot. This entire world came to life perfecrly straight out of Marcus’ mind. @marcusmazzulla for trusting us to bring his brilliant vision to life.
