donadagohvi tlvdatsi - One of the most selfless human beings I have ever met. I am confident writing all these things now because I spoke them with him in person. He was taken away from his mother to a boarding school when he was a boy. He nearly lost his language. When he came back home, a friend speaking Cherokee told him a story about throwing a padlock 🔓 out the window. The Cherokee language uses the same word for padlock and turtle (if you think about it, it makes perfect sense). Anyway, Mr. Panther thought his friend said he threw a turtle 🐢 out the window. He told this story to my students and the entire class fell out laughing. We took the students to Chicago because of him. Their syllabary poetry lives in the Field Museum because of him. We ate dog and cheese on the pier with him. When it was all said and done, he told me our trip was once-in-a-lifetime. Lawrence Panther experienced countless once-in-a-lifetimes. He devoted his life to students and community. Mr. Panther told me that while he was in the boarding school they said they would, “kill the Indian to save the man.” Instead, he lived and never grew bitter. He told me he got to meet President John F. Kennedy there. But no, tlvdats , the president was the one fortunate enough to meet YOU. My life is eternally changed for having crossed your path. You taught me that “gvgeyui” means something like “I am stingy with you”. gvgeyui tlvdats wado wado unetlanvhi

Our full Crimson & Queens recap video is still on the way, but we couldn’t wait to share some of the moments that made this night unforgettable! Every photo holds a piece of what we’re grateful for today: the queens who lit up the stage, the students and volunteers who made the magic happen, and the community who showed up with so much love and energy. As we look back this Thanksgiving, we’re reminded of just how powerful it is to gather, celebrate, and uplift one another. Crimson & Queens does just that! Wishing you rest, connection, and gratitude today. The full video recap is coming soon but here’s a glimpse into how the night went. Happy Thanksgiving from our Haus to yours! ❤️ - Haus of QSA
