Building bridges between community schools 🤝🌱 As an organization dedicated to strengthening arts access across the full continuum of a child’s educational experience, we’ve been investing deeply in building relationships between elementary, middle, and high school arts programs within the same Oakland neighborhoods. Earlier this month, we facilitated a field trip where students from the @elmhurstunited band program visited neighboring elementary school @reachoakland to perform for 5th graders and share about their experiences in the Elmhurst music program. With support from Elmhurst music teacher Deario Austin, Elmhurst students stepped into the role of community leaders—speaking about how participating in music has positively shaped their school experience, answering questions from incoming students, and even giving 5th graders a chance to try out instruments themselves. We’re so proud of our Elmhurst students and look forward to welcoming rising 6th graders from Reach Academy in the fall 💗

Rooted In the Deep East 🌹🌳 As a grassroots organization, our commitment and priority is to show up for students and communities most impacted by systemic inequities and barriers to access to arts education and opportunity—not just by providing access to music and arts education, but by opening doors to mentorship, creative careers, and possibilities beyond the classroom. This work extends beyond music. It’s about building trust, showing up consistently, and growing meaningful, long-term relationships with students, families, schools, and community partners. As we approach our 4th year, the East Oakland Vocal Festival & Block Party is a reflection of that commitment. Hosted at Castlemont High School—home to a powerful legacy of music and culture—we’re proud to uplift voices from across the Deep East, from the organizations we partner with to the students we highlight—including Castlemont, Elmhurst United Middle School, and REACH Academy. Show up for Deep East Oakland! Come celebrate with us on Thursday, April 30th. Link in bio 🔗

🎨💛 Mindful moments and colorful canvases at the 81st Ave Library! Students and caregivers from @mlaoakland and @reachoakland joined our partners at @lifeilove.school for a special wellness session focused on slowing down, connecting, and caring for our minds. Led by a Certified Wellness Coach (and OUSD parent!), families: 🌬️ Practiced mindful breathing 🧠 Learned simple brain science about how our brains respond to stress 🎨 Created vibrant canvas paintings together Programs like this help students and families build tools for staying calm, making thoughtful choices, and supporting one another. Life I Love currently partners with@esperanzaeaglets510, REACH Academy, and @elmhurstunited and hopes to expand to additional OUSD schools in Fall 2026. #OUSD #OaklandSchools #StudentWellness #CommunityPartners #OaklandStudents

#FBF to Design Day at Oakland’s REACH Academy, where parents, teachers, and students came together to dream up a new schoolyard! We asked one parent what play means to her and her answer says it all: “No matter what ethnicity you are, what culture you come from, we can play together...When they get to be happy and play with each other, they open up—they let themselves be a part of this community.” We believe every kid deserves a joyful, safe place to play and to belong. What does play mean to you?
