It moves at such a calm pace, yet it’s reflective at the same time.

This book made me think of Japan and the amazing time I had there on my holidays. The setting and the everyday life brought it all back.

Thoughts 💭
Taran has a problem. Her family doesn't know her, and her fiance broke up, and they are coming to her house to celebrate Christmas. Taran and Guy agree to fake the date to get through the holidays, but they are unable to fool Guy's brother Nolan, who has secretly been pinning after Taran for years. He decides to finally show her he's the brother she should've been with all along.

This reminds me of an unhinged Hallmark movie in the best way. You have a quaint year-round holiday town mixed with raunchy dialogue. The opposites attract between Taran and Nolan are hilarious and had me laughing the entire time. Nolan, the stripper/baseball player who is very confident in himself, is quite the character. Taran is way more proper and reserved, and everything about her speaks to Nolan. He set his sights on her from the beginning, and now he trying to claim her while she's fake dating his brother and planning their wedding. Oh, and all their family is there for the holidays. It's the perfect mix of chaos and holiday shenanigans. I didn't read either of the other books in the series, and I don't think you need to in order to enjoy it. Just be prepared for lots of laughs and steamy moments.

Thoughts 💭
Emrys is Revenant, who lives a quiet life as a librarian of witchlore inside the NeverEnd library. When a new Revenant arrives and magical artifacts start vanishing, Emrys is forced into a partnership with his mortal enemy, a shapeshifter named Audrey Vale.

The atmosphere is set within the first few pages. The cozy gothic setting of the library contrasts with deeper emotional themes like prejudice and grief. Emrys is extremely relatable, and we can empathize with him in multiple ways, such as his struggle of being enternally, physically, and seventeen while trying to be taken seriously. His enemies to lovers relationship with Audrey was fun to read about. I have to admit I thought Audrey was a girl when I quickly read the synopsis, so it was a bit of a shock to me when he wasn't. Once I adjusted, I was drawn into this beautiful story of self-discovery, sacrifice, and the meaning of home all wrapped into a refreshing and original magical system.

Thoughts:

Mercy’s Child is based on a true story and is a very heartfelt, heartbreaking and uplifting story. It crept up on me slowly and before I knew it I was completely invested in Etta’s journey. I ended up absolutely loving this book. It was definitely an emotional read. The abuse and suffering the young girl endured was hard but I appreciated how the story showed Etta’s courage, compassion and determination to help. I liked the historical setting and the way the story showed the extreme differences between wealth and poverty during this time. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a wonderful job with tone and pacing. It really enhanced the story for me. I highly recommend it!

Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book! I loved the friendship between Thea and Alex and how a story that started with a lie turned into a genuine connection. The banter and the way their relationship developed made for a fun read. It was a sweet, feel-good story and I was rooting for them the entire time.

I listened to the audiobook and Jesse Vilinsky did a great job with the narration. She really brought the story to life for me.

Do I recommend? Yes

In 1695, Niamh was falsely accused of witchcraft and sentenced to hang. While imprisoned, she meets two witches who comfort her and pass some of their power onto her. At the hanging, a mysterious young man arrives and also joins his magic with the witches. More than 300 years later, we meet Neve, who is the reincarnated Niamh, and living with her aunts, who are the reincarnated witches she met in prison. As Neve remembers her past, she is tasked to find three magical items. With the help of Caden, she must fulfill an ancient prophecy and defeat the evil witch Imogen who threatens her coven.

The audio was delightful to listen to. Stephanie Nemeth-Parker does a great job bringing this story to life! This book is part of a trilogy, so a good portion of it is devoted to world building and backstory. It is a solid start to a trilogy, but there isn't a lot of action, and the two main characters don't actually meet until the very end. They instead meet through dreams and visions. I've read other witch novels from Nora Roberts before, and this has a similar feel to her other ones. I would be interested in reading the other books in their series to see how the story plays out. If you are willing to invest in the slow world building, I do think the payoff would eventually be worth it.

I read Kristen Cole’s debut novel, The Scientist, and loved it, so when she reached out for me to read Row-mantically Challenged, I jumped at the chance.
And boy what a ride this one was!
Kristen does a beautiful job of building characters and scenarios that the reader cares about. Particularly important to me, she writes smart, successful, confident female leads. This is a big one for me. I love her leading ladies!

She also entirely avoids the pitfalls of many romance novels- easily fixed problems, not much depth.
Here we have Myles and Wes- our enemies to lovers- both flawed, both with difficult unresolved past struggles. The author doesn’t take the easy way out. She takes the reader through Wes’s struggles with PTSD and survivor guilt and anxiety. I felt connected to his struggle.

I understood Myles’s pain too and loved the care she felt for her father.

Plus, I adored all the secondary characters! The friends, the family members! Really cute personalities and banter.

In the end, their HEA was deeply satisfying and well earned.

This book was crazy imaginative and honestly one of the best spicy Alice in Wonderland retellings that I've read, even though it's on the shorter side. Going into it I was not expecting it to have this wild of a plot but color me impressed.
The spice is immediate and reminded me of hent@i. Which made me think that's all it was going to be, but there is a story there, and it's sooo freaking good.
I highly recommend this, especially if you're into retellings!
