I was inspired by @jordslibrary and @reading.andrew for creating this post. As a fellow bookstagrammer, I read a diverse amount of genres as well as listening and amplifying voices in communities where they are not heard. I can’t believe there’s this one problematic bookstagrammer who promotes nothing, but hate and I do not stand for that at all. Here are some books that are my TBR that I am reading with biblical conviction! I have an endless TBR and there’s more books that fit the assignment.

LONG ASS POST AHEAD. I had so many thoughts about this situation as someone who lived deep in evangelical culture for 20 years. This has also happened a handful of times since I have been on bookstagram and I have continued to see similar patterns pop up (both in the rhetoric used by Christian and in the response they receive). I grew up extremely religious and I hurt people because of my bigoted beliefs. I was small-minded, judgmental, and self-righteous. It took time for me to untangle from that environment and it was because of amazingly patient and knowledgeable people in my life who allowed me to ask questions and slowly break out of the toxic beliefs that I was taught. When I see these people I see the person that I was as a teenager and I know where they’re coming from and why they are that way. I hope this may shed some light on how these people operate and give you permission to not engage or feel the need to fight them (because trust me, I am so easily rage baited, especially by evangelicals). There’s been a good amount of anti-religious content lately (with this + my Easter post) but I am not anti-Christian. I still resonate with a lot of aspects of the faith I was raised in, but ultimately I needed to step away because of the completely disgusting and unacceptable way that modern Christianity in the West is being used as a tool of colonialism and imperialism rather than a tool for liberation as it was in its early days. If you are a Christian and you are respectful and loving of everyone in the way that Jesus was, you are welcome on my page. If you read any of this, thank you so much.
