One year ago today I set up my account and discovered the wonderful world of Bookstagram.

What an amazing year it has been! I feel so incredibly lucky to have met so many lovely people - thank you all so much for your support.

A year of buddy reads, discovering debut and indie authors, book launches, author events, book recommendations and of course books, books and more books!

Turns out it was one of the best things I have ever done and I will be forever thankful to my wonderful daughter Meg @readwithmegss for suggesting it to me and for encouraging me when I said ‘ there is no way I could ever do that’!

Here’s to year 2! Happy reading everyone ❤️

My daughter Meg and I ticked off another couple of London bookshops last weekend.
First stop was London Review Bookshop in Bloomsbury followed by Foyles on Charing Cross Road.

Both were really busy so unfortunately we weren’t able to get our usual photo together in the shop - maybe we’ll just have to go back!

The London Review of Books is Europe’s leading magazine of culture and ideas where some of the world’s best writers explore a wide variety of subjects. It’s bookshop in Bloomsbury has a selection of approximately 20,000 titles. They aim to represent the character of the magazine on their bookshelves which they describe as ‘intelligent without being pompous; engaged without being partisan; fun without being frivolous’

Foyles is an iconic London bookshops which has been on Charing across Road since 1906 and had 4 miles of shelves which hold more than 200,000 different titles!

I was invited to celebrate the paperback release of Our Infinite Fates, one of my favourite reads from last year (maybe ever) ♾️💘💅🏽 I had a great time meeting likeminded people - bonding over pizza, manicures and books! What more could I ask for?

Next up on the tour of London Bookshops that I am doing with my daughter Meg is Housmans on the Caledonian Road, near Kings Cross station.

This was a really interesting one as over the course of the last 60 years it has shared its premises with Peace News, the Gay Liberation Front, Greenpeace and the CND. They are the longest continuous-running radical bookshop in BritainThis heritage is evident in the wide range of books it stocks on international politics, feminism, economics and labour history. They also sell fiction, graphic novels, poetry and children’s books.

On a grey and dreary Saturday afternoon a couple of weeks ago my daughter Meg and I had a lovely afternoon ticking a couple of London Bookshops off our list.

Our first stop was Word On The Water - a floating bookshop with a permanent mooring on the Regent’s Canal in King’s Cross. Such a cozy and welcoming space with armchairs, cushions and rugs as well as a great selection of new and second hand books.
In the summer they have live music on the open air deck. Well worth a visit!

I bought this book for my daughter for Christmas and we have made it our mission to visit them all over the next couple of years!

The first one we ticked off the list was @bookbaruk in Islington. We had a lovely afternoon in this cozy little bookshop 🥰

Good Girls Deserve A Treat…

Every member of The House, the most exclusive sorority on campus, and all its alumni, are beautiful, high-achieving, and universally respected.

After a freshman year she would rather forget, sophomore Nina Kaur knows being one of the chosen few accepted into The House is the first step in her path to the brightest possible future. Once she’s taken into their fold, the House will surely ease her fears of failure and protect her from those who see a young woman on her own as easy prey.

Meanwhile, adjunct professor Dr. Sloane Hartley is struggling to return to work after accepting a demotion to support her partner’s new position at the cutthroat University. After 18 months at home with her newborn daughter, Sloane’s clothes don’t fit right, her girl-dad husband isn’t as present as he thinks he is, and even the few hours a day she’s apart from her child fill her psyche with paralyzing ennui. When invited to be The House’s academic liaison, Sloane enviously drinks in the way the alumnae seem to have it all, achieving a level of collective perfection that Sloane so desperately craves.

As Nina and Sloane each get drawn deeper into the arcane rituals of the sisterhood, they learn that living well comes with bloody costs. And when they are finally invited to the table, they will have to decide just how much they can stomach in the name of solidarity and power.

Bury Our Bones In The Midnight Soil event!

I still can’t believe this happened! It was an absolute honour to be invited to meet the lovely @veschwab and hear her talk about toxic lesbian vampires 🖤🌹

Having already read Bury Our Bones In The Midnight Soil, I didn’t think I could love it any more, but hearing V describe her characters, writing process and what this book means to her was beautiful. It’s safe to say this book devoured me. These women and their stories will stay with me for a long time to come, and I cannot wait for everyone to read this book, it’s an absolute masterpiece!
