Some stories do not begin with a plan.
They begin right next door. 🌿

We live in the middle of a Balinese mountain village. And directly beside us stands the sacred family temple of one of the families who make Balikaru what it is.

This is where relatives come together for the rituals that carry family life across generations. On this day, they gathered for Melaspas — to purify and bless a new place before life begins within it.

Many of the people you see here are part of our Balikaru family. Nothing was arranged for visitors. Nothing was performed for the camera.

It was simply family, faith and community — unfolding around us as naturally as any other part of village life. 🙏

For us, the Bali our guests experience and the Bali we live every day are not two different worlds. They belong together.

We are not beside village life.
We are part of it. 💛
