You were amazing last night at the Paramount @realdjshadow … still blown away by your show and meeting you during the meet n greet.

A great honor for me as I have spent many years listening to your music and using it to relearn how to hear again with my cochlear implants and for a big inspiration to chase my dreams of music.

Thank you for all the music 🕊️🤟🏻🎶

🌎When Earth Needs Heroes, the Globe
Gets Guarded!🌎

This first issue of Guarding the Globe from 2012 kicks off a new chapter for the Guardians of the Globe in the Invincible universe. With Invincible away dealing with the Viltrumite War, the planet still needs protection and the Guardians have to step up. The issue follows Brit and the newly assembled Guardians of the Globe as they handle threats around the world. The team includes heroes such as Outrun, Yeti, Kaboomerang, Robot, and others, giving the group a mixture of experienced heroes and some unusual new personalities. As the team settles into its role, the story jumps between different characters and locations, showing that being a member of the Guardians isn’t just about throwing punches, it’s about dealing with unexpected threats while trying to work together as a team. Meanwhile, the larger events of the Viltrumite War continue to affect what is happening on Earth.

Not to sound like a broken record (ay-ohhh) but what a frickin LEGENDARY record this is..for its genre or ANY genre really. I was actually introduced to this one not too long ago as one of the all-time hip hop greats..so yeah..expectations were pretty high going in.

But let me tell you..it somehow lived up to every single one of them and then some. What an amazing record this is.

DJ Shadow came up out of the West Coast underground scene in the early 90s..building his name through crate-digging and putting together these insanely detailed sample-based tracks. Beyond just making beats..he was constructing entire pieces out of fragments of other records.

There’s a level of patience and obsession there that you can hear immediately. And Endtroducing.. is really the moment where it all came together.

Released in 1996..this was his debut full-length..and what makes it so wild is that it he INDEED created it almost entirely from samples..pieced together on an MPC with no traditional band or live instrumentation. It could’ve easily felt cold or mechanical because of that..but it’s the complete opposite.

It’s moody, emotional, and somehow incredibly human.

Tracks like Building Steam with a Grain of Salt set the tone right away..layered, hypnotic, and slowly unfolding. Midnight in a Perfect World is probably the most recognizable moment..just has that late-night, drifting feel that sticks with you.

And then Stem/Long Stem pulls everything into something a little darker and heavier without losing that flow.

To say the album landed well is SUCH an understatement..it basically rewrote what people thought instrumental hip hop could be. Critics loved it..it built a massive following over time..and it’s still constantly brought up as one of the greatest records ever made in that space.

And it completely changed the trajectory of his career. It gave him a platform to keep pushing further into experimental territory while influencing a whole generation of producers behind him.

Going back to it now..it still feels ahead of its time..like it exists in its own space entirely. Such a cool one to finally experience the right way.
