Good food for everyone, forever 🌱
Transforming our food system from the grassroots up #agroecology #foodsovereighty

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A lot of messages have been received about lives being changed, about how the time spent together was immensely healing and restorative and about the true need for gathering as a collective to address the times we live in and explore ways we can soothe, nurture and hold ourselves, one another and the living world we are part of.

I big theme of the gathering has been what true stewardship really looks like. What it’s like to empower one’s guiding light, to really listen and hear, to really be proactive while attending caring about our own capacities.

It has been such a deep honour to meet and learn from people who fight for soil and seed sovereignty, from those who have spent lives undusting traces of their ancestral lines with the abundance of teaching relevant for today’s world that’s begging for remembrance and care more than ever.

We are also greatly humbled to have received generous sponsorship to be able fund bursary places and welcome phenomenal people who have made this gathering more alive than ever.

A massive thank you to @landfoodmedicine for being the vision keeper, @42acresretreat for generously hosting, and @realfarmingtrust for contributing to the in-depth discussions.

@tombarrettphotography thank you for capturing the spirit of the gathering 🧙🏼

Calling all growers and farmers who are looking for inspiration to do things differently ✨

We caught up with Sam Beaumont, who farms Gowbarrow Hall Farm with his wife Clare. They transitioned their land from an intensive agricultural system, to an organic, lower stocked, regenerative grazing approach that gives back to the soil, all while producing good food for the community.

One of the catalysts for changing their farm management was coming to the Oxford Real Farming Conference. Connecting with other people who are wanting to nourish their soil, crops and communities - and hearing inspiring stories of farmers successfully building resilient ways of working - gave Sam the confidence to make changes at Gowbarrow Hall Farm.

If you’re a farmer, grower or landworker looking to join a community of land stewards producing good food for generations to come, head to the ORFC website and book your reduced price Farmer ticket!

How would you describe two days of over 2000 people from across the agroecology movement gathering to discuss a shared vision for the future of food and farming?

We asked the team behind the ORFC to describe the conference in three words. It’s no surprise that energising, inspiring and hopeful came back multiple times. We hope you’ll join us in January and find out for yourself!

Tickets including subsidised (only 5 left!!) and farmer are available on our website.

Let us know your three favourite words to describe ORFC in the comments ⬇️

🌳 Farm walk alert! 🌳🦫

Join us at award-winning organic Woodland Valley Farm @woodlandvalleyfarm_events in Cornwall on Saturday 14 November (10am–2pm).

Em Gen’r Felicity @farmerflis will show us round her family’s farm and chat about how organic beef farming, an education centre and a beaver haven all live side by side in one beautiful Cornish valley. Beaver expert Chris Jones @kernowbeaver will join the walk too, and we’ll kick things off with a cuppa and Felicity’s famous flapjacks.

You’ll get to spend time with other Em Genr’s too!

Tucked away in a secluded valley and mentioned in the Domesday Book, it’s a 170-acre regenerative farm that’s been organic since 2002. The family are founding members of @pastureforlife and use #silvopasture to give their cattle shade and shelter. Six acres of beaver-created wetlands are home to rare birds like the Willow Tit, and a further 100 acres of #agroforestry and woodland even includes some temperate rainforest! 🌳🦫

🎟️ Tickets from £10 for 18–35 members (free to join!), with a locally sourced light lunch option available. Supporter tickets (over 35s) available too.

🍎 What we’re eating this October: Apples

Our new seasonal food section is here! We’re welcoming guest contributor Carla Hill, gardener and writer, to explore how what we grow, share and eat connects us with nature and each other.

And where better to start than apples — and the promise of a good crumble?

Drawing on her experience harvesting and pressing apples at Sharpham Trust in Devon, Carla explores what orchards offer beyond fruit: homes for wildlife, places to gather and a chance to reconnect with the land.

Her invitation this October? Discover a London community orchard, join a harvesting or volunteering day, and taste something grown closer to home 🌳

Read Carla’s full article on Substack and subscribe to our newsletter via the link in our bio.

Do you have a favourite local orchard — or an apple variety we should try? Tell us below 👇

James Beecher from the Real Farming Trust will be speaking at Fields Good this year.

The Real Farming Trust supports the empowerment of small-scale farmers and food producers who bypass the industrial farming system by offering good food direct to communities through local supply chains. James works in the Food Justice team, as the manager of the Twinning Programme - which connects rural farms and urban projects.

In this short 30 minute session, James will talk about the benefits and impacts of doing this sort of work as well as the barriers, and the experiences people have had as they try to overcome them.

James will be joined by Matt Williams from Jubilee Farm @jubilee.coop in Larne, which has been part of the programme.

Don't miss this session in the Lodge building.
