DOES RUSSELL EVANS GIVE YOU KENDRICK LAMAR VIBES?! 👀🎤

ItsDC4 and Cyco City are back for installment two of our Russell Evans EP reaction series—this time breaking down “Silver Lining.”

This one hit differently from the first record.

Russell returned with the conscious lyrics, purposeful bars and positive message that originally put him on our radar. There’s no unnecessary negativity or forced gangster bravado—just an artist attempting to give listeners something meaningful.

Cyco even heard some Kendrick Lamar and Southern California influence in the cadence, vocal choices and overall approach. We’re not saying Russell is copying Kendrick, but the comparison created an interesting conversation.

The studio-performance visual was simple, so the song had to stand on its writing and delivery. We also gave Russell some honest constructive criticism and discussed how a fully developed music video could elevate this record even further.

Was the Kendrick comparison fair? Did “Silver Lining” deserve a bigger visual—and should we finish the entire EP?

Drop your grade and favorite bar below! 👇🏾

As always, this is only our opinion.
