TRC's Take A Stand for Women & Girls event in Atlanta, Georgia was a powerful reminder that violence against women and girls is an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed on multiple fronts. During the event, we heard survivors' stories of abuse that were heartbreaking but also inspiring. It's important for us to come together and take action in order to end this cycle of violence.

We can all be part of the solution by educating ourselves on healthy relationship dynamics, calling out toxic masculinity when we see it, and supporting organizations that provide resources for survivors. To create lasting change, we must also hold our leaders accountable for passing laws and investing resources into helping those who are affected by abuse.

No one should have to deal with this struggle alone - so let’s join together in making a real difference! Together, we can work towards ending violence against women and girls where we live! #TakeAStand #BreakTheCycle #TRCpledge

More from Take A Stand for Women & Girls, Nov 23.

Clip and excerpt from @11alive news

"This initiative today, we start with someone who has suffered but whose story is triumphant," said Founder of TRC, Khalil Osiris, @realkhalilosiris who was referring to Torrey.

"That’s the message that we’re bringing to this: we, particularly as men, say that this violence will not stop until we as men hold ourselves accountable."

While the event took place Wednesday, the organization holds several events to help reduce gender-based violence.

Osiris said the group of men pledging to stop the violence is a step in the right direction as they're using their voice for those who had been silenced in the worst way.

"And now those same men who have been invisible in terms of advocacy now have absolute visibility in terms of action," Osiris said.

"Every man and boy who pledges to end domestic and gender based violence makes the world safer for women and girls." - Khalil Osiris, TRC founder.

Thank you to all the citizens of Atlanta who joined us for the launch of TRC’s Take a Stand for Women & Girls campaign. The rights and safety of women & girls in democracies and autocracies are under siege and when called to take a stand, you showed up.

Thank you to all our speakers and panellists for sharing their stories and inspiring so many to take the pledge to end GBV. Thank you for breaking the silence, committing to a gender safe work place and promoting gender equality. We’re continuing to magnify the profound effect we all can have when citizens commit to taking a stand for women & girls, for this and future generations.

Repost @andre dre truitt As a man, I’m going to step forward. Fb friends take a moment to view this video. We all know someone, or maybe you have been abused. You may know someone who lost their life to abusive violence. I’m hoping you’ll watch this video. As a business owner, I’m hoping other businesses will stand with me. Let’s put an end to gender base violence on women, children, and men!

Repost @isaacmbarnes Rape and abuse are never ok. So many young girls worldwide suffer from physical, mental, and verbal abuse daily. They feel unheard, unloved, and unprotected. Yes, I know men suffer too, but this is why we have to take gender equality more seriously. I’m taking a stand for gender equality and asking you to do the same to reduce and end gender base violence in your home, neighborhoods, cities, schools, offices, and online.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, violence against women and girls has greatly intensified. The United Nations called this sharp increase in violence a Shadow Pandemic.
Everyone can take action to end Gender Based Violence (GBV). Here are a few things you can do:
Take a stand and pledge to end GBV where you live
Record a video explaining why ending GBV is important to you, upload it to your socials, and hashtag #educate2endgbv #trconversations
Empathize by reflecting how you would respond if this happened to you or someone you care about
Educate yourself on the topic so that you can identify and help prevent GBV when you see it #educate2endgbv #stopviolenceagainstwomen #gbv #studentactivism

Most importantly, use your voice! Educate your friends and family and if you witness gender based violence, speak up.

In 2022, #women and #girls are still most at risk for abuse and murder by the law and from men who are meant to protect or love them.
