ILFL Winter League 2026/27
GAMEWEEK 2 RESULT (1-1)
Sunday 11th October

⚽️ Reks

Week 2 of the ILFL Winter League saw us take on a physical and experienced Real Lucia side, who entered the match full of confidence after scoring seven goals in their opening fixture. It was a cagey contest throughout, with us falling behind to an unfortunate looping effort in a tightly contested game.

We responded well, equalising early in the second half before pushing for a winner. Several good chances fell our way in the closing stages, creating a genuine opportunity to claim all three points, but the finishing touch proved elusive. It was a frustrating afternoon for us, as we showed enough to win the game but ultimately had to settle for a share of the points.

*Real Lucia 4–1 Newark Youth*
_Scorer: Shafi Noor (P)_

Another tough result for Newark Youth, who remain stuck in a frustrating rut—made harder to swallow by a scoreline that doesn’t quite reflect the true nature of the performance. With several debutants on the pitch, Newark were caught cold and found themselves two goals down early in the first half. But as the game settled and changes were made, the team began to grow into it. Newark pushed forward with purpose, and their pressure paid off when a penalty was awarded and calmly buried into the top corner by Shafi.

The momentum carried into the second half, with Newark chasing an equaliser that always felt within reach. But football can be cruel, and a third goal for Real Lucia against the run of play punctured the growing belief. A late free kick made the scoreline look harsher than the contest deserved. Still, Newark’s determination—despite low numbers and the absence of key players—was clear to see.

There’s no hiding the disappointment, but there is something to build on. With Bow FC up next, Newark have a chance to turn effort into results. A must-win, and an opportunity to reset the story.

@realluciafc 🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨 2nd leg of the Fete match was a spectacle with my side going 1-0 up, we controlled majority of the game but failed to take our chances, which ended costing us when the referee awarded a late penalty in the last 10mins of the game which finished 1-1. That makes the last game all to play for… the date for this TBC

After a long season, it has finally come to an end, the team finished 3rd place after being put into the premier division for the first time I’d say we have a good account of ourselves and gives us motivation to improve.

St. Lucian team based in London one thing I’ll say is how proud I am to be involved in this, hopefully we can influence the kids over there and give them a way out 🇱🇨⚽️

Points Shared. With both goals scored in the first half, Real Lucia piled on the pressure in the second. But we did enough to keep them at
bay and take something from the game 🤝
