Our full interview with Leo Gabriel is here. Swipe through to read it.

Leo raised $50,000 on his own, wrote a dark comedy sci fi short about his own dating life, and made it under a SAG agreement so the film would earn him his union card. He wrote, directed, produced and led Running Through The Void, the first title from his company, Super Slayer, and he built it as a calling card to launch his acting and filmmaking career. It’s now headed to festivals.

Inside, he gets into how he financed it and why he told a story about anxiety through a superhero lens. He also breaks down the “just ask” approach that got him his cast.

Leo Gabriel didn’t wait for an audition to come through. He raised $50,000 on his own, wrote a dark comedy sci-fi short about his own dating life, and made it under a SAG-AFTRA agreement so the film would earn him his union card.

Running Through The Void is the first title from his new company, Super Slayer. It’s now heading to festivals.

He cast it the same way: by asking. He pitched one actor in 30 seconds at a meet-and-greet and emailed the other directly.

BY THE BOOK (2025) | Starring @gautamghattamaneni

Directed by @tejamettu_
Produced by @matthewwarter

Based on a true story: In late 1980s Jersey City, a soft-spoken Indian banker quietly rallies neighborhood South Asian fathers into a vigilante crew to defend their block from racist attacks,
only to be dragged into government moles and betrayal as his law-student son insists on fighting for justice “by the book.”

It was 4am when when I shot this film on the streets of New York and played Madonna out loud.

“Call After Me” explores the hidden dangers of what it feels like to walk home alone, be approached at a bar, or even the attempt to be a “girls’ girl”.

It’s filled with friendship, humor, and heart. As a producer and a student in film spaces and beyond, I wanted to talk about the little ways young women in the modern world are silenced and must move on.

I am incredibly grateful for this team that I simply came together for the story, and therefore believed and brought this film to life.

You can now watch it at my bio 🔗

“Young and naïve Marie finds her attention from a cat caller on the street until she must face dangers of pursuing it too far.”
