M. Kerkvliet, a 2005-born goalkeeper for Real Monarchs (Real Salt Lake’s MLS Next Pro side), has put together an outstanding second professional season with the club — an ever-present starter who has already logged 2,782 pro minutes, remarkable experience for a keeper still just 21 years old.

His shot-stopping has been the foundation: 82 saves at a 63.4% save rate across 136 shots faced, with standout performances like six saves (83%) in the 2-1 win over Ventura County, five saves in the clean-sheet shutout of Minnesota United II, and 100% save displays in matches against Los Angeles II, Vancouver, and Sporting KC II — including a clean sheet in the 5-0 rout of Sporting KC. He’s also a genuine ball-playing keeper, completing 96.8% of his 617 short passes, and with goalkeepers typically not peaking until their late twenties, his two full pro seasons at this age point to a very high ceiling.

-Real Monarchs & Academy Equipment Manager — Real Salt Lake
-MLS / MLS NEXT / USL
-Originally from the UK, I’ve spent the past 10+ years working in football/soccer across both the UK and United States. I previously worked in professional soccer with Portland Timbers 2 before returning to the professional game with Real Monarchs.
-My favorite thing about being an equipment manager is being part of the team behind the team. From preparing players and staff for training and match days to managing inventory, travel, logistics and everything in between, I enjoy knowing that the small details can make a big difference.
-One of the things I enjoy most about this profession is the relationships you build along the way. Every club, locker room and equipment department has its own way of doing things, and I’m always looking to learn from other equipment managers and share ideas with others in the industry.
-Outside of work, I’m a lifelong football fan and Sunderland AFC supporter. I enjoy traveling, playing pool, staying active, and spending time with friends and family. I’ve also recently started sharing my equipment journey and the behind-the-scenes side of the profession through @jam.thekitman.

A weekend in Philadelphia with the First Team! ⚽️

Despite not getting the result we wanted, it was a great experience to be involved in the out-of-market training setup and matchday operations, working alongside the guys and helping wherever I could.

Big props to Peyton for taking charge and leading the way. I was happy to assist and be part of it all.

The fight isn’t over. We’ll keep pushing until the end and give ourselves the best chance of making the playoffs. 💪

Manche Talente analysieren Daten – andere entscheiden ganze Spiele. Felix Ewald kann einfach beides. 💥
Wir gratulieren unserem ehemaligen Team-Kollegen Felix zu einem unfassbaren Doppel-Erfolg in den USA: Er wurde bei Real Monarchs sowohl als Newcomer of the Year als auch zum MVP of the Season ausgezeichnet! 🏆🔥

Liam's 2026 season has been a breakthrough year, capped by his first-team debut with Real Salt Lake on September 24 against the Seattle Sounders. He came on as a left central midfielder and made an immediate impact. In nine minutes he completed 8 of 9 passes (89%) and kept the ball moving in a high-pressure MLS environment. That he could step in at the top level and stay composed shows how far he has come. The debut is the natural reward for a season of steady, reliable work with Real Monarchs in MLS Next Pro.

With Real Monarchs, Liam played 21 matches and about 1,560 minutes, often going the full 90 and beyond. His versatility stands out. He played center back (left, right, and central), right back, defensive midfield, and both central midfield spots, and he performed well in each. Across the season he completed about 1,300 passes at roughly 88.5% accuracy and won 58.7% of his long passes, which makes him a secure and progressive passer from deep. His best games show his ceiling. He completed 106 passes in the loss to Tacoma Defiance, had a 94% pass rate against Vancouver Whitecaps II, and made 52 of 66 actions successfully at right center back in a hard-fought match against North Texas.

He also contributes beyond his core role, with an assist, 20 shots, and 1.23 xG from midfield and defense. He added 93 interceptions and 227 recoveries, and he competed well in the air, winning about 53% of his aerial duels. A player who can defend, break up play, and distribute accurately from several positions is valuable to any coach. Between his consistent Monarchs minutes and a first-team debut, Liam is on a clear upward path and has earned a longer look from the first team next season.

Judah Pritchett just went from being a college commit to a MLS Homegrown signing 🤩

This is crazy… just a few months ago, the 2008 born defender committed to play college soccer for Syracuse University 😮‍💨. Now, he will undergo his academy contract and signed a two year deal with RSL’s MLS Next Pro side Real Monarchs before activating his MLS Deal for the 2027-28 season 💫. This was all in a deal with DC United as the clubs exchanged general allocation money for the Homegrown Priority of Judah 🤝.

He joined the DC United Academy back in 2022 and has been a top player in MLS Next ever since 💥. In 2025, he was even named to the MLS Next All Star squad ✨.

What an accomplishment 👏

Equipment Managers Appreciation Week ⚽️🧤

The job behind the job.

The early mornings.
The late nights.
The laundry.
The packing.
The unpacking.
The travel.
The last-minute requests.
The endless inventory.
The matchdays.
And all the little things nobody sees.

I started @jam.thekitman to share a bit of that world and document my own journey back into professional football.

From my time with Portland Timbers 2, to stepping away from the professional game, and now being back working with Real Monarchs & Real Salt Lake, it’s been one hell of a journey.

Being an Equipment Manager isn’t just about putting names on shirts or handing out boots. It’s about being part of the team, solving problems before they become problems, and doing whatever it takes to help players and staff perform.

And honestly… I wouldn’t have it any other way.

A massive shoutout to all the equipment managers, kit managers, assistants and support staff doing the work behind the scenes every single day. You know how much goes into it.

Happy Equipment Managers Appreciation Week! 🫡⚽️

Here’s to the people behind the scenes. Shout out to @buc31 @peytoncompagno and @_asian_jim_halpert_ Photo credit to @joaquinpontmedia
