I am still filled with so much gratitude after last weekend. Thank you to the dynamic, trailblazing changemakers of the Murrieta-Temecula Area Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated for honoring me as a Community Hero for my contributions to equity in education and service. To be uplifted by an organization with such a powerful legacy of excellence and impact is beyond humbling. A big thank you to my tribe of friends, who were there to cheer me on and always have my back… my daughter, whose love and encouragement fuel my every step and remind me why this equity work matters… and last but not least, my husband, your love, support, patience, and partnership make it all possible. I also want to celebrate another Community Hero who was also acknowledged. Brandie Kekoa, standing with you reminded me that real change happens when we work together, hand in hand, heart to heart. Your leadership, vision, and service inspire me to keep going—because our collective impact is what truly changes lives. This recognition is not the finish line—it’s fuel for the journey ahead. There is still more work to do, more voices to uplift, and more doors to open. #DeltaSigmaTheta #trailblazing #legacy #sisterhood #Gratitude #recognition #CommunityHeroes #Education #Equity #Inclusion #mtaacseptemberbreakfast2025 #mtaac #Heroes #mytribe #Honored #Gratitude #Community #Hero #EquityAndInclusion #TheWorkContinues

Reposted from @asmlashae Today I announced AB 1279, AB 802, and AB 785, three bills that re-imagine justice for youth in California. - AB 1279 breaks the chain between teenage missteps and lifelong punishment, removing juvenile “strikes” from adult sentencing - AB 802 guarantees no child goes hungry in detention; dignity starts with a full plate. - AB 785 reinvests prison savings into community-led violence prevention, mental-health care, and school-based support. Because true justice nurtures potential instead of punishing adolescence. Our children deserve second chances, healing, and hope. Stand with me as we build a safer, fairer, and more just California.
