Holst wrote The Planets for nearly 100 musicians. That didn't stop ROCO! 🪐🚀

Happy #ThrowbackThursday to ROCO In Concert: Remarkable, our 20th season-opening concert at The Church of St. John the Divine. Artistic Partner Mei-Ann Chen led the full orchestra in Jim Stephenson’s ROCO-commissioned rescore of Gustav Holst’s masterpiece, as Houston visual artist James Templeton’s commissioned animation set the cosmos in motion above the stage.

Two years later, we’re thrilled to see this rescore live on beyond ROCO, with three performances around the world this month alone: Daegu Virtuoso Chamber Orchestra (Oct 17), Northwest Sinfonietta, reuniting with Mei-Ann Chen (Oct 24 & 25), and Memphis Symphony (Oct 30).

🎧 Hear where this rescore's journey began via the link in our bio!

Well they talk about it, talk about it, talk about it, talk about it...

Which is great, because we are NOT good at promoting it.

Luckily this is a really great show run by a really great crew and we have a really awesome community of people who tell their friends and then their friends tell their friends and then their friends tell whoever.

We only made two post about the last show and thanks to y'all we had one of our biggest crowds ever! There were many many people who came for the first time, and many many people who came for the first time in a long time.

We're over the hill, and over the moon!

Huge thanks to:

The 40th Happening was the best Happening to have ever had Happened!

Thank you to @julia.claire.wallace, @cookietonguemusic, @realteeth, @lofipuppets, @amazingtortillas, and everyone else who made it magical back stage, on stage, and in front of the stage!

This is a true blue community driven event. Our audience touches, listens, dances, watches, and moves with the show through the whole evening. Many people volunteer to help - coming early to move chairs, and staying late to wrap extension chords. Every artist is paid a guarantee to ensure their work is never valued solely on the merit of how many people paid at the door. The Orange Show gives us the trust, resources, space, and creative freedom it takes to make it all Happen.

All ages.
All art forms.
Always free.

AND ITS HAPPENING AGAIN

THIS PLAY. This production. Holy cow. I have never seen anything like this. The story is other worldly and yet so human. And the talent of the people who created this production is THROUGH THE ROOF. I can’t even… just go see this, #Houston. Your imagination will blow open wide and you will go on this electric ride of family and espionage and history and equity and community and neon and disco balls (and fries) and roller skates and and and. Just go.

A great night for Houston production. 🎬🏆

We had a great night at the 2nd Annual HAPIE Awards, celebrating incredible work across Houston’s production industry.

A big congratulations to our Motion Graphics Artist / Editor, James Templeton, who was named Motion Graphics Artist of the Year for the second year in a row! We’re so proud of you, James.

It was also a special night for our Senior Producer, Ruth Villatoro, who serves as Vice President of the Houston Association of Producers. We’re proud to support @htxproducers and the work they’re doing for Houston’s production community.

Congratulations to all of this year’s winners! We’re proud to be part of a community filled with so much talent, creativity, and collaboration.

The Happening: Episode XL

This is a strangely hard post to write.. I mean, what can be said in some perfect capsule that tells you anything much less the truth about 40 shows? Or hundreds of artists? Or our team - past and present? Where do you even begin the great undertaking of tracing the countless lines of the countless thumbs pressed into the clay of something we have all built and re-build together month after month?

I suppose you just say thanks.. and..

ITS HAPPENING AGAIN!

The show James Templeton & Collin Hedrick built last night was 1/1. A mind-blowing journey of electronic sound. It was anxious, it was deep & completely thought provoking. Almost a conjuring of the spirit of an old shuddered factory that NEEDED to build things again!

Thank you James & Collin for sharing with us.
We are bringing back live music to Montrose. One After-Hours show at a time. Once a month we invite talented friends to take over the space for a couple hours, to share their art, and to freely express themselves.

Organized by @goodjunkvintage

Next month’s artist to be announced soon 🔑
