Our Coach Spotlight continues with Roger Hornberger (Kimberly High School Boys Head Coach)!

On Saturday, April 26, Kimberly and Appleton are hosting Madison and Oconomowoc for Lax Fights Cancer, in honor of Roger who was diagnosed with leukemia in November 2023.

To read Roger's story and to donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Fund, go to: https://pages.lls.org/voy/wi/wi25/rhornberger

On a personal note, Roger has been a friend for more than a decade. It is no overstatement to say that Roger lives and breathes lacrosse in all of its forms and selflessly gives his time and effort for the love of the game.

Roger still plays on his "old guy" teams, coaches, officiates, and serves on the Board of the Coaches Association. He has helped start youth programs and high school programs - both boys and girls. He is the proud dad, uncle and great-uncle to a family of lax players.

Roger's coaching journey began in the early 1980s in Maine and Rhode Island when he was a college student. After several years of coaching in New Jersey, Roger's job brought him to Appleton where he helped start Appleton's youth lacrosse program in 2014. He is now in his 6th season as the Kimberly boys head coach and has been an integral part in the tremendous growth of lacrosse in Kimberly.

To me, this pic shows the POWER of a team. These Sconnie lax boys are from many different schools all over the state... some know each other well, but many do not. They played in only 3 tournaments this summer and this is what they look like between games! The are hot, tired and super stinky🥴... and yet this is how they hang between games... close knit and supportive! I could also write about how they improved and how great they did this weekend, but THIS is what I love about Sconnie Lax!
*
Of course, this is also due to the environment that the program, coaches and parents develop! My heart is full of POWERFUL gratitude for all of them!
