I’ve been thinking about why we celebrate birthdays.

Because if we’re being honest, it’s a bit random.

Every year we gather around a cake and collectively agree that surviving another trip around the sun deserves champagne.

But maybe that’s exactly why.

Birthdays aren’t really about getting older. They’re about growing.

They’re little checkpoints where we get to look back at all the things we’ve learned, all the people we’ve loved, all the risks we took, all the mistakes we survived, and say, “well… that was a year.”

As I leave my twenties behind, I don’t feel sad about it. I feel grateful.

What a privilege it is to grow.

To change your mind. To become more yourself. To collect stories, friendships, memories, and a few questionable decisions along the way.

This birthday was filled with so much joy that I’ll spare you more philosophical TED Talk and let the smiles speak for themselves.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with me.

Here’s to the next decade.
