POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

@rec101.events started from a shared frustration that there has been a creeping sameness — the same vibes, same beats — across different club venues in Amsterdam. Acid techno was nearly invisible. Too many line-ups were mysterious or misleading — “we don’t know what those DJs gonna play tonight”; or “She always plays techno, but tonight she played house”. REC.101 challenges this status quo by promising transparency with its line-up and promoting diverse techno genres, curating an authentic experience straight to the point — We play techno, and we have five DJs playing different kinds of techno. If you want techno, come to us — The mission is brief, clear, and direct.

@lorenzo_vgb and @troy.qtrungg initiated this event with a spontaneous switch in their perspective — Everyone is a DJ, why don’t we just bring them together? What began as a casual rave talk turned into a full-blown project born out of chemistry, mutual trust, and the desire to do it better. REC.101, to them, is a reclamation of what techno used to feel like — intimate, diverse, and surprising.

The name pays homage to Roeterseiland Campus (REC), where Troy and Lorenzo first met each other. “101” evokes the idea of foundational courses in collage. REC.101 — a reintroduction to techno — restores a sense of freshness, variety, and intimacy to a scene that is becoming formulaic.

REC.101 doesn’t aim to be massive, but to be meaningful, to be recognized as a name that guarantees a good time, clear expectation, and safe vibe. No vague philosophy, no mystery marketing — Just five DJs, five styles, but One Vibe!

At the heart of the event is a friendship that flows like a track list — two hearts complementing each other’s music choices and share the same vibe that animates the party but also animates their bond.

They don’t want to survive by diluting their vision but to stay true to themselves, to keep it electronic, honest, and accessible. What they have achieved and will continue to do is a manifestation of techno’s power to unite, transform, and express individuality through collectivity.
