Theory Therapy mix #98: @rec_______________

"I thought it would be nice to make a mix for this summer that you could listen on the way to the beach, on the way back from it, or right on the beach itself. I was listening to a lot of mixes by Malibu and Femi lately and their balearic/Cafe Del Mar vibes are so inspiring, I’m huge fan of them!"

Dear friends! I have a new mix out today on the incredible @amuletoftears that I am quite proud of and would be truly grateful if you checked out. This is my fave mix yet and one of the proudest I have ever been about something I made if I am being honest! It feels like the truest representation of my brain yet.

I originally titled this mix “static stimming” (which you might recognize as the title of a recent substack post I made about noise music—had to use it!). It’s filled with the sort of sounds and textures that scratch a very specific corner of my neurodivergent brain. I really pushed myself here and tried to let go of any preconceptions of what is “allowed”. The usual ambient leaning electronics interwoven with harsh noise, explosive glitch, and even a sweet little Mark Hollis moment.

Also big shout out Crimeboys @shinetiac @yungsanta @ben_bondy and pontiac streator, whose Resident Advisor mix inspired me in a huge way on this mix, showing me that yes in fact you are allowed to include some truly left field, downright abrasive sounds in a mix and that really there are no rules.

That’s the last mix from me for a little bit. hope you enjoy! Link is in bio as usual.

rec - how deep is your love?

Gradually recalled memories of nightworld. A place of shelter and respite, a warm sanctuary against the elements and the pace, long shadows and reds and golds and endless afterglow. Music to see double into fading flames to, music to count the smouldering embers to, music that might be called ambient emo or perhaps dreamo if some such thing exists. It does now. It’s this. It’s rec’s. It’s yours.
