November 4th 2008

The night Barack Obama became the first Black president of the United States.
And the night my dad took his last breath .

I was nursing a two-month-old baby , caught between beginnings and endings.

Yet even in what should have been unbearable grief, I found respite.

Typical of my daddy.

He always left you with so much grace and wisdom , even in his exit .

There were fireworks in the sky, and the whole world was awake.

From my brothers, 11 and 15 years older than me,
to my father, who was 52 when I was born,
men, for me, have always been allies.

Protectors. Visionaries. Leaders.

So this November, in honor of my dad, Adenola Adeite Osunneye (peep his fine name ☺️),
I’ll be hosting
‘The Conversation’
a return to identity, wholeness, and masculinity.

It’s been four years since our last gathering and I’m deeply grateful, and thoroughly thrilled, to say:

I am surrounded by women.
My mother. My sister. My daughters. My aunts. My cousins. My nieces. My friends.
Each of them carries a piece of my heart, and I know how deeply I love them.

But if we keep allowing abuse to slide…
If we stay silent when we should speak…
Then we’re sending a dangerous message to the world - That it’s somehow okay for ev*l men to harm the ones we claim to love.

Our silence says to our women:
“We love you…but we can’t protect you.”
And that should never be true.

As men, it’s time to do better.
Not just by protecting the women in our lives,
but by standing loudly and boldly against every form of violence and abuse toward the girl child.

Because when one girl is hurt, our entire humanity bleeds.

PLEASE READ!

In the last few days, I have heard of stories of men who just suddenly slumped and died... Unfortunately, no one "suddenly" slumps... 😥

The African man is suppressing too much emotions... He can't cry...He can't laugh... He can't play... He can't be angry... He can't be sad...He constantly needs to "BE A MAN"...

When are we going to realise that NO HUMAN is wired to live this way? When are we going to start allowing the african man to be huMAN?

African man, when are you going to start crying whenever it hurts? When are you going to allow your shoulders relax a little? When are you going to finally go for that SPA date? Or just LIVE like a human being?

Whew!

Give it up 🙌 it's world @identitycoach day. I learnt the word CLARITY from you 😜. Interestingly, that word has metamorphosized to discovering the YOU, that isn't under pressure to be someone else but finding purpose for living while enjoying the best of it.
